A giant serpent living in the depths of Maridia. Botwoon burrows into the sand and rock of Maridia to create an elaborate multi-entrance tunnel system. Botwoon is an ambush predator, waiting until prey appears before snaking out of its hole and attacking. It uses the tunnel’s multiple entrances to escape predators and confuse prey. It can also spit out a caustic venom that can paralyze most creatures. Botwoon can grab smaller organisms in one bite or drag them back into its lair. However, while its skull holds a retractable jaw structure, Botwoon must tear apart larger organisms to consume them piece by piece.
Botwoon’s body is covered in thick armor that can absorb most attacks. The armor is weak around the head, particularly the eyes and mouth. Botwoon is very territorial, and it is not unusual to see scars of territorial battles on their bodies.
Botwoon is the miniboss of Maridia. He has two attacks. First, he exits his burrow and swims around the room in long loops. In the second, Botwoon sticks out its head and spits a radial arc of five acid blobs. Sometimes, he will swim out of his hole after spitting. You can avoid most of Botwoon’s attacks by kneeling or rolling into a ball in the lower-left corner of the room. Jump to avoid his acid spread. Once Botwoon has taken a lot of damage, his attack patterns will get faster and faster, making him harder to hit. Botwoon’s weak point is his head, but his loops are erratic, making it difficult to get a clear shot. Kneel and aim diagonally in the lower-left corner and time your shots. He will go down with 10 Super Missiles, but can also be damaged with Normal Missiles and the Charge Beam.
