- Ruins I
A bizarre bat-like creature that flutters about and burrows through the ruins and sandy caverns. The Gullugg is surprisingly ugly, its body resembling a giant face with bat wings growing out of it and a sword struck through the skull. In addition, the Gullugg has two large eyes, but it usually keeps one eye partially closed to rest the other and protect its vision from sand and dirt. Its name is derived from this drunken appearance. At the top of its head are two acute antenna-shaped ears that can be tuned in any direction to better detect the ultrasonic chirps the Gullugg sends to communicate with others of its kind. The Gullugg attacks by spearing its prey with the giant spine running vertically from its body and ingesting food through their sharp-toothed maw.
Gulluggs fly around in a tight circle, so are easily destroyed from a distance with a few shots from the Normal Beam. They often drop missiles, so are great when your ammo gets low. They can be a little hassle when they occur in sandy passages. They are similar to the Senjoo and Shirk.
The Japanese name “Gurugu” (グルグ) is onomotopoeia for turning round and round, hence its behavior.
