These Metroids were cloned by the Space Pirates from the Baby Metroid’s DNA. Though genetically identical to the Baby, they have not been imprinted by Samus and will attack her aggressively. Metroids will drain their victims of all life force, leaving behind a mummy that will disintegrate into dust once disturbed. Once one has latched on, they can only be removed by freezing them or using high-yield explosives.
Metroids are much more sluggish in Super Metroid than they were in the first two games, but don’t let that take your guard down! Freeze them with the Ice Beam, then pummel them with five Missiles or a single Super Missile. Metroids can also be destroyed with three Power Bombs, a trick used for achieving low item % runs. If a Metroid latches onto Samus, lay bombs to get them off. You will not take damage while Space Jumping with the Screw Attack equipped, but the Metroids will weigh you down, making it harder to jump.
Samus must destroy only 12 of these Metroids during her traversal through the newly-contructed Tourian.
