I guess that Phazon could go under Fan Stuff if you wanted, but a general Art Thread is a good thing. I love art.

Ah... Silver.

I was about to make this thread, you know.

Except, I was to call it:

The "Metroid DataBase Art Cafe- Come on in!"

Where all artwork, not just Metroid (gasp!) was welcomed to be viewed by us... cultured individuals.

But you beat me to it.

I have been making sketches on computer paper recently because my sketchbook is too large for our scanner.

This means that in the very NEAR future I will finally post my beautiful art for all to see. Now you can witness first-hand the difficulties of drawing hands and feet anatomically.

By the way, that was a subtle suggestion at a more dynamic thread title

I've been playing with fractals recently, and boy are they fun! Try it out yourself with Aphophysis... I also suggest this tutorial.

Anyways, my most recent one is called Organism.

Then I realized what it really looks like... Phazon of course :P

Time you learned the truth of life. Once you play Metroid, everything looks like Phazon.

PLUG DEUX!

I like the drawing with the Nightmare, Redwing. :)

Recently I've been doing some comics for a friend. Here's one about queen ants.

Here's a character I've been working on developing lately, and another that I enjoy drawing to relax. This sketch shows a similar model.

Wonder what I look like?! Look no further! XD

I really like that creature and the armored figure you're working on. They look really cool.

...And now I'm curious as to how many times you've been like:

Still Requesting this become "The Metroid Database Art Cafe" It has more pizazz, y'know?

Agree

And that poor guy with the T-Rex arms! Please, show him a bit of mercy and study some proportions  Actually, the stuff doesn't look that bad. Reminds me of some of my earlier stuff. Your faces are good, but like I said, definitely work with the bodies and proportions.

I have been basing proportion off of a "what looks right" approach. I know the arms were shit, but I had so many good parts of the sketch already, I didn't want to fuck it up with bad erasures. I hate those in a drawing. I also hate bad proportions, so I'm stuck there.

As far as art goes (in regards to the human form), I have been able to mainly get down the faces, torsos, hands, and legs. But the arms are always the hardest part to draw for me, because it is hard to get them to look right.

In reward for constructive criticism, have a CORE-X

Well, if you have a good eraser no-one will ever know. Proportions aren't easy to nail, especially if you just go by what looks right (it's what I do as well). For a while though, I did a ball-and-stick trace of the position in proper proportion beforehand to make sure everything was right, then drew the figure over the guidelines and erased them. It helped me actually draw in correct proportion, and after a while I was able to drop the guidelines (although I should really still be using them; most "good" artists use them all the time). If you don't use guidelines (draw them light so erasing is easy) then be prepared to erase in order for it to look right. I use mechanical pencils, which usually have those good, rubbery white erasers. Sometimes stray lines and un-erased sketches can add to the artistic quality of a work, too.

Oh, and just a note, your heads are too big for the shoulders and torso anyway. Ideally, shoulders should be one head length on either side. If that looks too blocky, elongate the neck. Oh well, I'm sure you'll eventually get it :P

I'm not a fan of the ball-and-stick approach, even though the benefits are there, it reminds me too much of a "how-to-draw-manga" book, and I despise those.

I do draw light outlines, and erase them afterwards, but I try to keep things as clean as possible. And yes, Mechanical pencils ARE the medium of choice, unless you want to fancy and use those expensive pens like I did. As I said, the arms are the only part of the drawing I am displeased with.

I took one semester of drawing class before my school closed (sigh... i was gonna take it junior and senior year too...), but it dramatically increased my ability, which was OK before (better than the rest of my class) to something I am quite proud of.

Quite frankly, practice makes perfect, and not a lot of my "professional" sketches have that kind of proportional problem. But I made this account like yesterday on photobucket, so I wanted to have a few tests.

And I never noticed the shoulders thing. Maybe I'll rectify it, maybe I won't.

Here's a quick self-protrait. I fucked up on the left eye, no need to tell me. And the ear is a bit too close, but I like it:

If more people participate, this might be my favorite thread.

And here's something for fun on Paint:
