Anyway, have you guys ever read the manga (or watched the anime) Bakuman? It's from the same authors as Death Note, but it's really, really different (and really, really good). I've been reading it addictively lately.

Re: General Anime/Manga
Its the Team Galactic Commanders (Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) from Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum games (you can also see Cyrus, the leader, in the background). I don't know who made it, but I'll give you the original if you want (its a little bigger than the one in my sig). So, I've played Diamond but haven't beaten it out of laziness, and I've read all of the Diamond & Pearl Arc and some of the Platinum Arc. Does that mean I get...700 cookies?
Vic Mignogna is awesome. He did an amazing Mao in Disgaea 3. In fact, the Disgaea 3 English was superior to the Japanese. But anyways, as you said voice work is very subjective, and Ed's english voice just rubbed me the wrong way. So yeah, its more the character than the actor himself.
The whole Nasuverse actually makes way more sense in Visual Novel form, but admittingly its hard to translate to a motion picture. Way to much plot/information and complicated rules.
You're probably right, as my brother also found it funny despite the fact that he isn't too familiar with the source. Also lol at Final Dead Lancer! Great episode indeed. Poor Lancer. Re: General Anime/Manga@Zynux: I'll give you a
for the effort but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I'd appreciate it if you'd send me the original, I'd love to have it. I find it hilarious, especially given the context.
I knew it was Team Galactic from Pokemon, though I wasn't aware of who exactly. What I meant was what particular anime (and subsequent manga) the animation was spoofing. It's a bit taken from the OP of another, apparently very obscure show, and for such a cheery, upbeat opening the show itself is anything but. The manga much more so. Give it another shot! A thousand cookies are on the line! @Naner: I'd have gone with Nanoha - Fate / Zero - Code Geas myself, and no, I haven't read/watched Bakuman. Something I forgot in posts previous: Gundam AGE. Completely apathetic towards it. Watched through the entire first season and the first few episodes of season two and dropped it after it failed to maintain interest. It had such little impact on me that I've all but forgotten about it until now. I like Gundam, and this spinoff certainly had an interesting premiss; a single story told over three generations of characters, but terrible pacing, bland, one-dimensional characters, an unnecessarily childish art style and a distinct lack of engaging mecha combat, the only other thing short of angst the series is known for, just left me thoroughly bored. The mobile suit designs aren't particularly inspired either. It's mostly throwbacks and shout outs to previous entries. Very disappointing. I really liked Gundam 00 and was hoping AGE would at least be half way decent. I wouldn't call it terrible, just incredibly mediocre. The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.

Re: General Anime/Manga@Zynux: First of all, thanks for the GIF. I shall treasure it. I find the crossover between the two shows hilariously ironic. Secondly, as for the anime in question:
Narutaru: The link to TvTropes should tell you everything you need to know about the series but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. Better known as Shadow Star in the west, Narutaru is a deliberate deconstruction of the Mons genre. It's pretty much Pokemon meets Evangelion. With predictable results. The anime sucked, hard, but had an awesome opening, from which your GIF originated. Catchy, upbeat, fun, and totally undermining what the show was actually about, it was essentially perfect, but the show itself suffered from mediocre animation, an abysmal English dub and butchered plot. It didn't last more than a twelve episode season, which was probably for the best as it suffered massive restructuring as a result of the... graphic material of the manga. There was no way in hell the second half would've made it live without being reworked into an entirely different show. The manga itself, while far better than the anime, still suffered it's own problems, most notably it's translation. The first two thirds of the series was translated and released by Dark Horse, then they dropped it and the series was finished via scanlation wherein the quality of the translation, which was up to that point just fine, took a hit, thought it was still readable. I wouldn't recommend the anime and would only recommend the manga if you're interested in this particular type of deconstruction and aren't squeamish. It does get very graphic. And now for something completely different. I mentioned Evangelion, so I am now obligated to post the following: The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.

Re: General Anime/MangaThe other night I just finished New Dominion Tank Police.
I swear, it was like the Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 of anime. In other words, perfect. I am also watching a rare old movie in my collection called The Little Prince and the 8headed dragon, from 1963. Japanese animation before really "anime" took off. It's very interesting, distinct, and beautiful. It was clearly the inspiration for Wind Waker: ![]() ![]() It's also clearly inspired by Disney animation (especially noticeable in the animals). It's a fascinating blend of traditional Japanese art, Disney aesthetics, and beautiful animation, layout, and background art. I know I've posted about it before, but I'm finally getting the chance to watch it.

Re: General Anime/MangaI walked into Walmart and they had Sacred Star of Milos for sale! I bought it right away!
I.....didn't like it........ I mean no not just for Lack of Royai. but well..the animation was pretty chunky and proportion was off sometimes. They did good on landscaping and wide shots though! Those were beautiful. Beyond that..if you had played any of the FMA video games, its all the same style plot. "Here's a chick/dude with a sucky past that is about 50% as bad as the Elric bros. lalalala the Mary Sue knows what's going on while the Bros are left hanging. Then somone's long lost someone comes around and is like 'HOO HAA I'M A LONG LOST SOMEONE!' dramatic stuff happens. Someone dies or comes close to. Elric's learn a lesson and/or change someone's lives. The End." ![]()

Re: General Anime/MangaZynux : I don't understand why you would think Vic did a bad job. Me and a lot of people love Fullmetal Alchemist because of how good of job Vic did. Honestly if you think Edward is annoying, then I want to hear your opinion on Naruto.
Nanur : I read Bakuman since it first came out. I'm really enjoying it and I'm continuing to read them. |

This. BUt not just Naruto but Romi Pak's Edward... eee..it is like nails on a chalk board. ![]()

Re: General Anime/MangaIts been a while since I touched Naruto. I can't stand that show with a fiery passion.
If I remember correctly, Naruto's english voice fits but that's doesn't mean its not annoying as fuck. The character is annoying, so naturally the voice was annoying too. And yeah, I just re-listened to Edward's English voice and I still hate it. Its hard to pinpoint what I exactly don't like about it but it probably has something to do with being a bit too high-pitched. Yeah, I know he's technically a kid but wow. I like all the other voices too...except for maybe Roy. Speaking of English, I'm watching Cowboy Bebop now and that has pretty good English, better then the Japanese counterpart. "Cut! Re: General Anime/MangaThe best dub of all dubs is Funimation's Shin-chan. FACT. All other arguments are hereby rendered invalid.

Re: General Anime/Manga
Mainly the times when Ed's voice is high is during the short rants, but that doesn't even happen that long. By meaning "too high-pitched", I can understand with younger Ed. With Roy's voice, Travis Williamham does it so normally. Roy doesn't shout or scream like Ed, he just talks normally most of the time. So why do you dislike him. |
|
Re: General Anime/Manga
This still confuses me...because Edward's Japanese voice is even HIGHER than Vic's. And Travis' voice is lower than the Japanese voice which is also why I like it. Well...i dunno theyre about the same. I kind of like both.
Mmmm..........hmm...yeahhh..that's pretty true. ![]()
