I don't say 'science' itself is dogmatic. I say belief itself lends itself to dogmatism. There's a subtle difference there. But hey, you get a whole gold star for reading my words correctly. A child can se- wait

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earthSeriously.
I've seen more reports about Tiger Woods' affairs than the 9/11 attacks back in '01. People **** each other. The media fails to understand that it's completely normal. When somebody tells me he doesn't believe in violence, I punch him in the face to inform him of its existence.

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earthYeah, it was the same when Michael Jackson died. They ignored much more important news for several days just to talk about MJ.

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earthI'm going to have a heart attack if I keep reading this thread, it's really quite infuriating.

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earth
Is Bill Maher some big figure in the scientific community? I mean, he's a political pundit and comedian, not a scientist. I've seen his show before, he rarely even discusses science. His movie on religion was just him trolling dumb religious people. Come on, there has to be better examples than that. I don't even think Richard Dawkins (who I very much disagree with) is the best example, since he does his best to be nice.
If you're not offended and taking this personally, you're doing a bad job at showing it. I mean, those bold text are kind of a giveaway. You're taking this way too personally. For all this liberal arts major style talk on objective truth, I thought you'd know Catholics have always been for "objective truth" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4460673.stm Your ranting seems very bizarre and emotionally driven, but also very uninterested. All I said was liberal arts majors don't usually get good marketable job skills and end up with shitty minimum wage jobs, and well, it turned into this. Ironically, that's my point. Liberal arts majors just do things like that, they rarely get any marketable skills and become perhaps the smartest fry cooks (or at least most pseudo-intellectual). That's all I got to say.
Don't get me wrong, I hate celebrity news, but Michael Jackson was at one time the most popular person on the planet, so you can't expect news stations not to cover it. Even Democracy Now did extensive coverage on Michael Jackson, though not nearly as much as say, CNN. |

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earthAgain, you yourself are doing a good job at misreading me. Keep it up.
I said I'm not attempting to offend you but at this point I kinda stopped caring. And niceness is not the point: the point I was trying to make was to illustrate Nietzsche's point to you so that you would understand it. Read my posts again, and you'll see this clearer. I continually am trying to explain things, and then you take that as 'not good enough' 'bizarre emotional appeals' and a bunch of other shit that IS making me get angry enough to just stop giving a damn about trying to explain myself, and continue to let yourself think of me as poorly as you damn please. If you want to continue to insult Liberal Arts majors, and by proxy, me, go right ahead. Whatever makes you feel meaningful and superior. Cue now the response of "I am not trying to feel superior, but this is totally what I was talking about so now I feel superior." Also, yeah, I kinda know the tenants of my own religion. Thanks for reminding me. The POINT I was trying to make in what was essentially a very long aside is that when people stop questioning the things they take for true, even truth itself, they become complacent and dogmatic. Which ties into the conflict points raised earlier in the thread. Also, read John Henry Newman's "The Idea of a University" Sorry, it's kinda old, but I'm sure that won't bother you. Edit for those whom it may concern: Hopefully people have seen that this attitude generally remains grounded in the topics which I find much vehement disagreement. Not that anyone cares, but.

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earth
Finally there's mutual feelings.
Weren't the villains in that god awful "Gene Roddenberry inspired show" Nietzcheist? I remember my brother telling me that, he has a hobby of watching crap for giggles.
Either you're angry or you're not angry. Make up your mind there. When someone says, "by proxy, me" I think they are taking it personally.
I'm not insulting them, I hope I can get a few to make something of their lives. Anyway, now I'm truly finished on it. No more two cents on this subject, I gotta go to the library. |

Re: worst thing man has ever unleashed upon the earthIMB706 is being nicer, or at least more passive-aggressive about it, but you both really need to step back and listen to yourselves. I think we've had enough of this thread now.
