I found a very simple way of gaining insights on your personality in regards to how social you are. Your popularity. Now I know this is a Video Game community, not myspace. But I don't believe in social networks. I stick to forums typically. This is my method of thought of just now while lying in bed half asleep: How many incoming calls do you receive on a daily/weekly basis. I want to approximate for both. I believe this to be true because generally if someone is your friend is really likes you, they will call you. They will have you in their mind. They require your insight on various things. They invite you to everything. Which sets up my next question: Do you receive more calls than you dial? Now this one isn't as objective. Because there are popular people who are the "leaders". They make the calls and is normal in various social circles. And now for my final question. It's sort of gender biased. It is text messaging. My sister is some what popular, she follows normal popular people conventions and hates her family, never talks to us while we are out. Instead she maintains about 6 private conversations through text messaging. So what I ask from you this time is: Do you text message in excess of 6 times an hour?

To keep this simple I'll repeat again the information I want from you.

With this out of the way I can nap until noon without regrets. I will add a poll if this is a hit.

1. About 10-20 per week, but 3-10 people IM me every day, knowing that I prefer it to phone conversation.
2. By far! Every other call starts with a complaint about how I don’t call enough.
3. No, but I hate text messages. People I meet tend to text me incessantly until I yell at them about it.

I guess you could say I am not very social by nature, but I am moderately popular so I end up being social out of obligation to the people I care about.

I barely use my phone at all. I guess I call more than I receive, because my girlfriend uses it even less
I hate texting. All of the people in my generation sit there in class and typetypetype. It looks stupid, it's really antisocial (they don't talk to anyone in the room, just sit there), and they just get busted and have their phones taken away and complain. Once again, I despise texting.

Hm. You're very narrow minded, aren't you? I'm (reasonably) popular at my school, but I just don't give out my phone number to anyone except my closest friends. I hate telephone conversations, I'd rather IM or something. When some people get a call, they'll spend 30 minutes talking, even if they've already said what they called for. When I get a call it's more like this.

Them: Hey, you wanna come to the beach on Saturday?
Me: Okay. Bye.

Of course... I forgot to get the time or place...

That is a) an overgeneralization and b) not entirely relevant since a number of us are not teenagers.

Meh I'll accept your words. I was rather hasty typing it. Should of stated the youth of this generation. Most of them being teenagers. But there are plenty of people in their 30s that still play this social game. People who haven't grown up like Paris Hilton. Furthermore, it's not an over generalization. If you can't acknowledge that cell phones play a big role in this you are naive.

I'll give you a point though simply because you win the popularity game. I also appreciate that you agree with notion that if people call you constantly it's a reassuring sign of friendship. AMG 1 Road 0

Nah you just don't fully understand the issue. If people don't like you, a good sign is they only talk to you when you initiate a conversation with them. They talk to you because they are trying to be polite; unwilling to hurt your feelings. If they are really your friend and they really like you. They want to spend a lot a of time you with. They think of you constantly and require your insight on a lot of things. This fact alone is undeniable.

You are a loser for social reasons. But not the big reasons. I would only consider you a "full" failure and loser if you dropped out of high school and smoke pot all day. Most people don't have the ideal level of popularity they I described. I'm average though and do receive calls regularly but only from 4 people. Because I have 4 real friends that love me and wonder how I'm doing.

well how about those people like me who's only true friends are those found on the internet. I have people I have met in Warcraft that have become like a family to me and I treat them as well as my few IRL friends I have.

If I was to go by my internet social life (the way socialism seems to be going anyway) then I'm not really a loser/failure in that regard am. I consider quite a few people here on the board friends, and ones I can confide in, as well as many other places I visit. The great thing about online friends is, you don't know them, and they don't know you, so if you tell them something, they may seem interested but could give two rats asses about it (in most cases). Online friends are better in some cases then RL friends:

I tell RL friend big secret or something confidential. Eventually it comes back out and not to the person you told it to.

I tell internet friend big secret, they do one of two things. 1. Don't care or two just brush it off. Afterall they don't know me and they have nothing to gain from telling a secret about someone they don't know, nor do any of their friends know (that they know of).

I'd much rather tell an online friend a secret then a RL friend for that simple reason.

LOL, I don’t need it defined. But no, I actually have very few female friends. I almost had a man hag about 2 months ago, but then he got a girlfriend. She is kinda messed up and they broke up a few weeks ago, but I haven’t seen him much since. Most of my friends are gay men I used to date and/or sleep with, and the rest are geeks that I know from various geeky pursuits. Most of the geeks are male, too.

I personally find it better for myself to have a small core group of friends to interact with than socialize with a large group of people that are not at all interested in me. Your definition of "social" is limiting and constricting.
