No one could ever say for sure, since we don't have some time machine that can see every path history can take. But I'd say it'd be some US intervention in the Middle East and Asia, which I'm personally afraid of.

But if anything ends human society, it will be economic and environmental degradation, probably not a big war. If such a war does happen, at least we'll have Oscar winners for the next few decades.

WW III will probably happen eventually between us and evil alien overlords!
But as long as I'm not around to see it I could care less.

I think WW3 will be, like the war that preceded it, a collection of smaller conflicts that occur simultaneously, with alliances existing between the players in each one. World War 2 was really two separate wars, after all.
