I love texting, but i hate it when people text ALL the time, or when they text in school .I like texting cuz i dont have to hold a phone up to my face, and its cheaper on my phone plan, cuz my calling is outrageous, but i hae unlimited text. so what are YOUR opinions on texting?

Hate it, especially when people do it while driving. Just put it the fuck down and drive damnit.
I say, if you are going to have a conversation with someone anyways why not freakin call them in the first place.
I just think it is stupid. I never text.

I concur. Those silly children think it's "cool", I guess. Kids, try writing resumés like that. You'll get reeeal far in life. I think texting is fine, but for the love of <Deity>; please use chatspeak if and only if the recipient wants to deal with it.

I'd prefer no one use it at all, for any purpose. I'm so afraid that modern society will start accepting it, and then we'll have to put up with it gaining footholds in other areas. Can you imagine the news broadcast like that? Or use in magazines? Kind of like 1984's newspeak... butchering the beauty of a language for efficiency.

I've only texted maybe a few times, and that's only because the guy texting me had the wrong number. But other than that I despise it. All the kids I see texting are doing it during freaking class, and I bet most of what they're texting is very unimportant stuff like "r u goin to dans party on friday?" and stupid crap like that, and they all feel the need to text all the time. What the hell happened to just talking to the person? Same goes for Facebook to, I fucking hate Facebook!

@Redwing: I think your fear is justified in practise, albeit irrational to have.
Given the current presence, state, and overall support of standardized English; the probability of the world becoming a chatspeak dystopia during our lifetimes seems very low.

I personally like both texting and calling. Texting when i'm in a rush, and calling when i have alot of free time.

Really? Anyway, I only use text when I have the time to type in those damn cellphone keys and it's something really quick. If it has more than one reply, I'll call. I'd probably text more if I had something better to type with, like a BlackBerry or an iPhone.

Biggest thing you want to worry about is text charges. If you don't have a plan with an ungodly amount of texting, texts can run 20c or more each. That can add up QUITE a bit if you send and receive a bunch.
I never did texting until recent. It's easier with a smart phone b/c you have a whole keyboard to work with rather than 10-key. It's useful if you're in a spot where you can't call. However, I bugs me when people text when they're talking to somebody - seriously, put the goddamn phone down. Also, it has the sad problem of adversely influencing students' composition abilities (or dis-abilities, as the case often is).
Let me also add - it's a LOT faster than checking voicemail.
