Re: Cool Videos (YouTube, etc.)These guys are badass. Chuck Norris badass. In 1957, they intentionally stood at ground zero and watched as someone detonated a nuke directly over their heads:
The nuke was an air-bust at 18,000 ft, but still, its a nuke. Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

Re: Cool Videos (YouTube, etc.)How did the tape recorder survive the EMP from the nuke, exactly? How were these guys not blinded by the flash? I wonder if any of them got radiation poisoning. They sure didn't have very strict safety standards those days. ![]()

Re: Cool Videos (YouTube, etc.)
I assume it was a mechanical video camera using film rather than an electric camera. I am not sure but I think those were a lot smaller at the time. Also, it was a low-yield device designed for air-to-air combat over populated areas, so I doubt it had much of an EMP. It also wasn't at the ideal altitude for an EMP.
I think only the guy with the glasses looked at the flash.
In this case, as far as people have been able to tell, no, they all lived to old age. However, many people involved in nuclear testing at the time did.
The whole point of the test was to demonstrate to the public that nuclear air-to-air weapons were safe. It didn't work Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

Re: Cool Videos (YouTube, etc.)Hm. Pretty interesting video. Those into the horror genre may find this interesting as well. "Cut! There are no second chances for actors that fall to the abyss. Await your second casting in the darkness forever." - The Night of Wallachia
