Yeah, I just saw that myself. I got the feeling there was a lot of editing for time, or maybe unnecessary exposition. I felt Peter's transformation was a little better than in Raimi's, though. No doubt there will be an extended cut DVD/BD. His reasons for becoming Spidey are selfish at first but shortly after he realizes he can do more. It was pretty cool.
Definite similarities to Raimi's story. I thought the progression and character development felt more natural in this one. Lizard was cool, his face was the only lame part.
Yeah, it's hard to meld human and reptilian features well. I don't mean to imply that Raimi's Spider-man sucks; it's awesome. It's just my opinion that this one was a slight improvement.

Definitely an improvement, I still wish Lizard had a head like a raptor, like in the comics.

Decided to download some films never got around to seeing:
Hangover, yeah I'm really late in watching this, was rather funny but not as good as folk made it out to be.
21 Jump Street, as above, had some really funny moments but not brilliant.
Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2, entertaining, much better than I thought.
Contagion, rather nice and interesting and something that was rather believable which made it bit 'scary'.
Scott Pilgram vs the World, turned it off after 20minutes, boring would be putting it too kindly don't get why people here were bigging it up...
Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, pretty awesome, was bit hard to follow at times but loved it.
Up, the opening was great, the first time I cried at a film, shame rest of it was crap thereafter.

Saw The Dark Knight Rises on Friday. It was amazing. Out of the trilogy, The Dark Knight is still the best, but Rises holds its own and has some incredible moments.

I watched The Dark Knight Rises Sunday. I found it to be the best out of the three.

Watched The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday. Surprisingly good and completely blows the previous three out of the water. Excited for our release of Batman here Friday.

Does Spider-Man actually act like Spider-Man this time? I don't remember him cracking a single joke in the Raimi films.

He cracks a lot of jokes and actually moves like a spider this time around.

Yup. Really worth it.
I may have exaggerated when I said it completely blows the other three, but this is certainly a better version of the character than the previous one.

I hear a lot of mixed opinions, but I do hear the characters are far better in this movie.

They really are. My only complaint is that they obviously cut a very important thread from the film that was advertised quite heavily. In trailers you can see the following things that NEVER SHOW UP IN THE MOVIE...
1. Dr. Ratha (a powerful member of OsCorp) says to Peter "Did you think what happened to you was an accident Mr. Parker?" In the movie Ratha and Peter never even meet. In the trailer, this scene takes place in the sewers. The theory is
that Peter was genetically engineered, and that's why he is the only successful human/animal hybrid.
Although that's never explicitly stated, it's implied, and even mentioned in the videogame spin off. Why cut such an important point out of the movie?
2. A half mutated Dr. Connors in the sewers says "If you want to know the truth about your father, come and get it!" Yep, never happens. Again, lending itself to the theory up above.
There's a few articles out there discussing that theory, and why the thread may have been removed. In any case it makes the movie feel hollow, as you never find out what happened to Dr. Ratha but it seems that he had more time with scene 1 mentioned above.
Oh well.

Maybe they decided post production to save that stuff for the sequel. Or the DVD release.
I hate it when studios do that, though; have scenes in the trailer that were cut from the final film.

Ugh I really hope that they drop this. This would turn Spider-Man into yet another 'chosen one' character I guess it just cheapens everything if Peter was always meant to be Spider-Man.
