Re: Favorite Dinosaur. They still haven't proven if Utahraptors had feathers.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur. They probably did, seeing as most of the other raptors did, atleast I think so, I can't remember, I used to know all of this stuff in primary school.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I just read the wikipedia article, and they clearly stated that there is no conclusive proof that Utahraptors have feathers.
My theory: Seeing as how large they are, I doubt the were feathered. Although a small feather down on certin parts of it's body would make perfect sense. Wow! After reading what i just wrote, I discovered how much of a dino-nerd i really am! ![]()

Re: Favorite Dinosaur."Though it is not proven that they had feathers phylogenetic bracketing suggest they probably did"
That's from the wiki article, my oppinion is pretty much the same as that but without complicated words. |

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I too, forget this... but. Always take wiki information with a grain of salt

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.Well, i would think about it like this: Feathers actually helped Velociraptors while hunting. These creatures size, on the other hand, suggest it didn't really hunt to much like a velociraptor. Thus, its feathers would be practically useless.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I agree with the wiki articles, but that's just the internet, even if I were to google it, the answers I come up with aren't 100%, but its quick and easy.
Yeah but how do we know for certain or atleast a lot that they didn't hunt in a similiar fashion to raptors, look at lions, tigers, cheetahs and so on, they are all fairly simliar in hunting styles, and they even have similiar looks, to a certain extent, which is why I think if Velociraptors and Deinonycus had feathers why wouldn't the Utahraptors have them also. |
|
Re: Favorite Dinosaur.Because they were quite a bit larger and faster than their prey, unlike velocis and deinos. Thus, their hunting tactics were different, and prefered more of a hevyweight combat style when hunting. In this case, feathers might actually be a disadvantage.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I don't think thier tactics would have been too different, I think they would've still stayed in packs, and attacked in simliar fashion to lions, they could have even taken down larger dinosaurs this way using team work,I dont think feathers would really be a disadvantage, but they probably wouldn't have assisted in hunting, maybe they could have used them to cover their young and keep the eggs warm who knows, but I still think they would have had feathers seeing as the other dinosaurs from the same family had have been found with quills suggesting feathers.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.*sigh* Buffalos are bigger than lions! Utahraptors were bigger than their prey! Why would they hunt in packs if their prey was smaller?!

|
|
Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I know buffalos are bigger than lions, I didn't say otherwise, but who's to say Utahraptors hunted smaller prey only, they could have easily taken down larger prey in a pack, even one by itself could possibly do so.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.Their prey was big enough for a few meals, but small enough to be taken down by one Utahraptor.

|
|
Re: Favorite Dinosaur.I think their prey would've varied from larger then them to probably almost anything smaller, as anything smaller could be taken on by one or two of them and larger dinosaurs could have been attacked by a pack, and that pack could have been any size, but I think it wouldn't be any larger than 10.

Re: Favorite Dinosaur. To end this debate, let us just say this: They didn't have feathers, and they didn't didn't have feathers.
Translation: It has been confirmed that it hasn't been confirmed. Nuff' said. ![]()

Re: Favorite Dinosaur.aww end the debate, I was having fun though, fine we'll agree to disagree, after all there isn't 100% proof about all the things we discussed, but there is proof none the less.
If only we could get dino DNA from mozzies and mix it with bird, frog or reptile DNA, and make an epic park filled with clone dinosaurs. |
