Honestly, I feel like Prometheus is one of the better movies to come out in a long while. I mean movies with real people in them anyway, I would never discount something as awesome as Brave!

The last time a sci-fi movie made me this happy was District 9. I like Prometheus more though? Why do people keep talking about sequels to this? Did Ridley Scott say he planned to make more? Why dose their need to be more movies based on this?

Anyway, looking forward to Elysium.

Scott has said he wants to make a sequel.

That's cool! I hope he is sincere though. I would not want him to make more just because some people did not seem to get it. I Don't think he would do that anyway, but you never know....Thanks anyway for the heads up ;)

I hope the Blueray is packed! I heard it is going to be extend so that will be nice to have more movie, Scott's cuts are always better, than the theatrical versions in most cases. I still want to know how many times, or how much practice it took for Fastbender/David to net that ball on the bike?

So I got to go to this! http://www.gnomonschool.com/?p=2461
They covered some pretty interesting stuff. Too much stuff to keep track of but I'll do my best to relay some info. First of all there were many creatures left out which is kinda a shame because I think one of them would have helped bridge the gap between the human/xenomorph mutations. Originally the guy whose helmet melted from the penis snake was going to mutate into a xenomorphic/human mutant thing. Kinda looked like pumpkin head but with a extendable jaw (think shark gums/jaws). There were some images that showed a corridor filled with bug like creatures (seemed very Metroid esque). Scott originally was set on having a much wider variety of life inhabiting the planet. Another cool creature was going to be this giant "baby" xenomorph thing. Had pale skin with a more bulbous phallic head. It also had eyes and the same type of jaw thing with long lanky arms. They did not explain the origin of this creature but showed a reel where the creature was first encountered. Scott envisioned it first being curled up and hunched into a ball. The bulbous head really blending in with the environment around it. Then it slowly stood up to reveal it was about 8 feet tall. Some of the reference images shown to Scott were gruesome birth defects. children with massive bulbous heads. Apparently Scott was really distrout over the images which gave the artists some insight on what kind of guy he really was. He was also reported to be a very visual oriented director and was said to sketch right along side the concept artists. This earned a great level of respect because the concept team didn't have to shovel out a bunch of thumbnail images, hoping scott would like one. They simply took Scott's sketches and went on to flesh them out in 3d. Another interesting topic, there was a Q and A period, most of it was industry stuff and students asking about time restraints and such. One attendy seemed to catch them off guard when he said there were rumors about Giger working on the project. The three panelists seemed to look at each other in silence and were a bit reluctant to answer but eventually admitted that it was true. They didn't go into much detail but said that he did help and was on set with Ridley (The concept team made it clear that they did not get the opportunity to meat him)........hmmmm lets see what else? Oh the engineers had boobs originally. Scott envisioned them as asexual beings having both male and female features. Everyone seemed put off by their appearance so it was eventually changed. The creature artist was told to mix the Statue of liberty, greek statues, and Elvis Presley to get the final appearance of the engineer lol. Oh and that squid thing............That thing had like ten vaginas and a bunch of dicks.....everyone seemed to laugh but the artist was dead serious about it and then showed us the model. Was kinda hard to make out that kinda detail when it was squiggling around on screen. The penises kinda make sence when you think about the purpose of face huggers (I still don't get the vaginas though). Can't think of much else to say. The rest was mostly a bunch of industry and artistic stuff.

That sounds like an awesome event, I'm really jealous. Also sad that so many life forms were cut out of the final film.

Hoping that more come back in the inevitable sequel.

Idk if it matters but Noomi Rapace is very hot and i think, since Ridley Scott is diing more, she is gonna become the next Sigourney Weaver.

I really wanna know what more should happen

Now that her fucking moron broski of a boyfriend is dead, I don't mind seeing her return.

They're going to need to up the writing quality if there are any sequels though.
I may like Prometheus but jumpin' Jemimah the script was written very poorly.

Charlize Theron was, if anyone, the Sigourney Weaver of the movie. I think they wasted her character.

How was she the Sigourney Weaver? She was cold, highly trained, impersonal, robotic.

Ripley was an untrained mining vessel operator who at least had a personality.

I agree the writing needs to be better. It left a lot out ...felt rushed..

But what I mean is in reality, Noomi Rapace is gaining popularity as an actress the same way SW did. And she will be tied to the "Prometheus" films the same way SW is tied to the "Alien" films for the rest of her career.

Hey guys, if you paid attention and sat through all the credits at the end of Prometheus, it would take you to this site: http://www.weylandindustries.com/timeline
Weyland Corporation was established today, 10/11/12.

I liked the movie, but overall I wish they didn't try to tie the whole religious/Christian aspect into it, because it just kinda fell flat on its face. I did like the fact that they left a lot of the movie up for viewer interpretation, but the character development/progression was also pretty weak (especially for the Captain). When the first Engineer you see dissolves into the water, you're never really given an exact time period in which that occurred, and you really never know what their motives for doing that were, other than that the Engineer seemed like he was "left behind" and was possibly committing suicide.

If they were to imply that due to the Engineer's DNA "contaminating" the water of the Earth, which eventually led to the creation of life, and then eventually humans, that's about as far fetched a story as you can get; evolution doesn't happen that way; it happens due to natural selection and survival of the fittest. Go here for the theory of abiogenesis.

They never once stated anywhere in the movie that the Engineers created all life on Earth. I'm pretty certain the Engineers only created humans. If you look closely at the first scene you'll see green fields of moss and lichen, therefore life already existed on the planet. The Engineers just tinkered with the existing life on Earth by fusing their genetic material with it via the black liquid. They guided evolution to eventually produce humans who are essencially inferior copies of themselves which they use for their experiments.

Also, Ridley Scott himself stated that the planet in the opening scene doesn't neccessarily have to be Earth. The scene's purpose was just to get across the idea of the Engineers seeding and manipulating biology across the cosmos. For all we know there could be countless other worlds with humans on them, not just Earth.
Anyway those are my thoughts on it, I may be wrong... but I'm probably right. :motherbrain:
