So, the consensus as I see from reading this thread is:
Grapple Lasso as WHIP=YES!!!
Energy sword=probably not, too much like Zelda
Bayonet=maybe
Samus can do awesome melee moves herself

Re: Melee WeaponsI would like to see the grapple beam as a selectable beam again like Super Metroid, but with grab and knock properties like in Smash Bros.

Re: Melee WeaponsI think in terms of Melee weapons it should be Arm, Legs and Grapple Beam. I guess you could say the Boost Ball is a Melee Weapon as well.

Re: Melee Weaponsthats not what it should be, that's what it already is. i still think that an energy scythe that comes out of her free hand is a good idea. it could be used to cut down obstacles that aren't vulnerable to the beams, and that using a missle too close would hurt you. Samus could use here grapple beam to get hired up to an out of reach place, like in sector 1 in other m, and then use the scythe to cut loose some locks, or cut down high-power explosives to blow up obstacles.

Re: Melee WeaponsBut I mean one button for each. None of this auto trigger stuff. That way you get a complex combat system that could be more akin to Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta because of some of the ridiculous combos. More insane difficulties wouldn't hurt, either.

Re: Melee Weapons
For me melee weapons are very useful. I really need it as my self defense. Couzin Ed: Yeah, the rock makes it feel so good!

Re: Melee WeaponsI said it before and I'll say it again: all Samus needs for a melee attack is a simple punch or bash of her cannon. Nothing fancy, just functional enough to get a Shadow Pirate to back off when it pins her in a corner.
= Ultimate WarriorTherefore, Now you know why they call it Metroid. --- This is the song, written for the chase scene! This is the song, Samus and James! He tri-ied to kill me with a forklift! (Ole!) |

Re: Melee WeaponsThe Wii U opens up some new menu opportunities. I've been thinking that there could be 4 gameplay modes. The 1st is basic motion and platforming/running stuff, similar to the way Other M worked (that games controls were undeniably good). The 2nd is more in-depth combat, where instead of the loose auto-aim used by the first, it uses more of a 3rd person shooter style for better aiming. The 3rd is melee mode. This mode is easily switched on or off with a touch screen button near the top of the screen, right next to the face buttons so it's not a hassle to use and can be accessed quickly for those quick enemies. This is, I think, a relatively smart way to work in melee because it's not forced onto you. The 4th mode is a 1st person visor view for the scan visor, xray, thermal, etc. Am I the only one that missed visors in Other M?

Re: Melee Weapons
Personally, I think she needs a bit more than that. I would prefer if she had a "1-2-3" bash move with her Arm Cannon (to get rid of enemies cornering her or getting too close to her) and a really powerful kick as well. "Cut!
