Samus's Power Suit's strength seems to come from it's massive defence. Her weapons don't seem much more powerful than the other hunters's. So increasing her melee ability would be a good idea, though it seems to go against the idea of her Power Suit being a defensive tool.

So do her weapon upgrades but that doesn't seem to bother anyone.

The power suit's purpose is mobility and protection. If, for that protection and that mobility, Samus needs more weapons, that's what she will get. I, for one, rarely engage in combat in Metroid unless an enemy strikes me first.

Once I get the screw attack, I start killing things for the sheer fun of it.

I kill enemies to get them out of my way, but there's a point at which I've killed so many friggin' war wasps I just keep moving so they can't hit me and ignore them. I'm replaying MP2 right now, and I can say that those stupid bugs really frustrate the entire game. Without them, it might be a lot better.

Yes, I always thought it'd be better if the war wasps weren't in the second game. It was cool to see them return until about halfway through Agon for me.

Also, a physical weapon in Samus's arsenal is a huge advantage in my eyes, even if it is a slow and unwieldy one. The reason why is because a melee weapon is a tangible object, physical matter. But of course, I myself would still prefer it to be a fast one like a katana-like weapon because I don't get the point of an unwieldy weapon like a hammer. I do not do well with those.

Oh god, I hated those war wasps. I'd always either run or blow up the hive as soon as I came out the door.

I'd really go for a physical weapon if it had a knockback effect and/or stunned the enemy for a few moments.
Also I think a melee weapon should have an arc of effect, meaning that as long as an enemy is in range and somewhere in front of you, it gets hit and you can slice through several enemies at once.

War Wasp nest sniping became a sport of mine, but not one I enjoy. I'm serious, I love Echoes except for War Wasps and Grenchlers. Echoes was my first Metroid experience and I'm surprised I powered through such annoyances to enjoy the rest of the series.

I really think at least the grapple beam should be employed as a melee weapon.

Definitely, EVERYTHING should be grapple-able. If it only works on specific attachments the good guys leave around the place, why don't they just hang ropes?

I join you in your grenchler hate. Those things scared the bejesus outta meand were tedious to kill.

I always figured the barbs on the Fusion Suit's arm would make a decent melee weapon. Not as effective as blasting, of course, but at least something that can keep a MP1 Shadow Pirate from pinning me into the corner, making it near-impossible to blast him.

Of course, since this is the normal Power Suit, it'd be a bit trickier. I like the bayonet idea, though.
:metroid: = Ultimate Warrior
8) = Ultimate Warrior
Therefore, 8) = :metroid:

Now you know why they call it Metroid.

I'd like to see the barbs drain energy by her Metroid DNA.

I'd love to see Samus make use of the spikes on her knees and the barbs on the back of her boots after getting the high jump. Those knee spikes.. Ouch.
Samus - She's the only woman I'll ever love.
