Off topic: The Protoss remind me of the Chozo, ideology-wise. And/or the Luminoth.
On topic: It'd be awesome if Samus did like in Smash Bros and beat people down with the arm cannon. Since it is huge and all. But it really does seem like she's more keen on shooting stuff, and using roundhouses and takedowns only when someone's too close. (Wait. Chuck Norris? Wrestling? MMA? Samus has been watching Spike.)

Of course Samus has been watching Spike. She has to have lots of TV channels in her ship for those long missions.

Her favorite channel is Ni-Ni-Ni-Nick, Ni-Ni-Ni-Nick- *shot*
On topic: I think that Samus will just kill stuff with CQC.

I am convinced that if there was a melee weapon we would have seen it by now, since one would definitely affect gameplay in a big way.

So did having Zero Suit Samus in Zero Mission, but they didn't leak that...

I don't think Samus needs a Melee weapon, though I can see her whipping bad guys around with her Grapple Beam.

But that was at the end of the game, and I don't want to wait that long for an upgrade that is likely to permanently change the way Samus fights. Personally, I would think a melee weapon would be a great selling point.

I think like a laser bayonet coming out of the arm cannon would be awesome

It definitely would, but I doubt they'd go that far.

Hmm, where have I seen-- Oh. Seriously guys, isn't it enough that she's tackling and suplexing and blowing people's head off at point blank range? Samus doesn't need a melee weapon, she is a melee weapon.

Yeah, pretty much. Hell, you could Speed Boost THROUGH bad guys in Prime 3. Samus' Body is a pretty good weapon on it's own.

Why not just an energy blade like the space pirates or Weavel?
She has an energy cannon, I mean, why can't it be modified to produce an energy Blade?
Or a modification to the grapple beam that inherits a mace-like spike energy ball on the end that could be swung around like a whip in case she gets surrounded?

I actually found out about that on my own in Elysia. The Bowling For Robots secret, or whatever it was called. And, like I said, I think that Samus will just kick enemies and stuff. Just look at the trailer: Samus jumps into the enemy, and blasts it in the eye.
