I concur.

On what I think about the whole thing, I cannot say anything that hasn't already been said. What I can add is this: I want it to be about more than just zapping stuff, because mindless killing is no fun to me, even if it's just a game. I've always wanted to somehow use my head, so the puzzles and exploration involved in the Metroid series made the series my favorite. And anyways, who doesn't want a good story when they have spare time? I am quite content with the addition of a backstory, unless of course it fails.

*whew*
I responded to Jeremy's backlash. I think he's the one that got angry, not me... :P
I do respect Jeremy as a journo, but he's starting to wear thin on me. I might not like him as much after this. The next poster after him also called him out. All this crying and bitching about M:OM before it's even released is rather fruitless, don't you think?

I agree! Good Job IE. I knew you could take care of these guys.

Oh gosh, I just read the new comments...

kbaudot3k wrote:I would like to point out that Team Ninja isn't doing the cutscenes for Other M, but an entirely separate company called D-Rockets, with Sakamoto providing the main story and scenario. Team Ninja is simply handling the 3-D programming and in-game modeling. I would expect a so-called professional journalist to know these basic facts before spewing such ignorant and reactionary attacks against an unreleased video game.

As far as Samus' character goes, I would expect a supposed professional such as you to at least respect Sakamoto's right as an artist to freely develop his characters and creations. Once again, no cigar. Your spiteful bashing of an unreleased game (and it's creator) is exemplary of why gaming journalism is still widely regarded as a joke.

Oh god, You and this guy just did a Journalist smackdown.

You know, I was about to type another large response to Sean's rebuttal. He responded directly to my last comment, and here is what I observe:

He's terribly misinformed. He's insistent that there are plotholes and fan-contrived explanations despite the fact that they are in the manuals of the games. Thus he tries to leverage this against Sakamoto. And then he sidestepped my other points by mentioning Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger games. (?)

Just let him have his opinion and his blog. It's a shame that some fans become rabid and resort to personal insults to him since it just makes us look bad as a community. But the fact is, our opinions don't matter to him and his shouldn't matter to us. He's going to speak his distaste for the direction of a series he doesn't much care for anyway, and that's perfectly fine.

When the game comes out, I and he and all the rest of us are going to own the game anyway.

This is what I was starting to feel like after reading his rebuttal. His distaste for the series seems to start incredibly early in its lifespan, as though he just doesn't like it if it's not the first Metroid game. I'm glad he feels so much about his own opinion, but Metroid has moved on without him, and his grousing is a decade and a half past its prime. He doesn't like Metroid, is all I'm seeing.

Hey, Metroid Database guy, I like your site, and it makes me sad that you're behaving this way.

... I... kind of agree. He was just expressing a few misgivings. Doesn't really seem debate worthy.

The war between the true metroid fans and the people claiming to be metroid fans but really just feel like bitching about things that they really don't know or understand has begun. (actually it kinda seems to be coming to a end at this point)

Who knows what other M is like. The trailer shows cut scenes but that doesn't mean it will be a metal gear. Even if the game is a metal gear then who is to say that the story will suck? At this point no one knows. I believe in Sakamoto, I believe he will give us a true metroid game.

Don't you think all the quick negative reaction to the idea of 'exploring Samus' feminine qualities' is pretty hilarious?

It sounds like these people are actually afraid of something 'girly' appearing in their masculine shoot-'em-all experience :awesome:. It'd be unacceptable! CUTSCENES AND EMOTIONS ARE FOR GIRLS!

That's what it sounds like to me, at least. It's probably because I'm gay and like unicorns.

...

Hooray stereotypes! The irony is killing me.

I'd be wary calling this site full of the 'true metroid fans' if only for the reason that it makes us sound pretty pretentious.

Just in case he's still reading this thread, I'd like to remind that almost every single Zelda fan think's he's a fucking moron, too. Speaking as retired staff of ZeldaUniverse, I'd be in a position to know. I would quite honestly like to print out all of his vitriolic articles with ink concocted from some type of highly poisonous venom (although, to be honest, they're poisonous in and of themselves), and force feed them to him. It'd be interesting to see him digest the full meaning of his articles.

It's not like I even care if people disagree with me. My views on Zelda especially are rather... eccentric, and the majority of the fanbase disagrees with me. I don't particularly mind, however, because they provide excellent reasoning as to why they think that. All I see with an internet troll is manipulation and falsification of statistics, fallacial arguments that lack the basic tenets of logic, and blindness to artistic qualities.

I know that many people are worried about the prospect of adding depth to Samus' character but I for one am excited for this and only see it as a good thing. Besides I don't think Sakamoto will make Samus out to be TOO girly.

You are right. probably should have worded that better. My main point was that Sean has not played Other M yet and shouldn't pass so much judgment on it till he has. Reading his article made me question whether or not he even played the same games we have played. Super Metroid is widely considered great for the aspects he seemed to miss entirely. Everyone is untitled to their own opinions but his seemed questionable as if they were written by some one bent on slandering the series.

I got yo' back IE.

@Mon Julpa - Thanks for liking the site, but this can also go 2 ways. Every Journalist/Reviewer knows that they are going to get bad heat for something. Jeremy doesn't HAVE to respond to Infinity's End. If you think Infinity's End is bad, well Jeremy is just as bad for continuing this blog war as well.

Im on IE's side on this one.

(im a little late on this conversation.)

I know this kinda hits you too but hey, its the morning it is all I could come up with.

*sigh*
Thanks, Outlaw, but if that's how people are going to be, I don't really care anymore.
"sad" that I'm "behaving this way"? Like, in what "way" am I behaving? I think I have every right to respond back to Jeremy's little panty-twist b'awwing. I wouldn't have done it with any other person but him, either.

In the end, I can't really fathom why people would even think of questioning that adding some real depth to the main storyline would be detrimental to the series when there have been TONS of threads, some with huge sprawling, book-like rants, on this very forum about how the series's plot needs to be nurtured some more.

If the timeline is any indication, it's quite clear that there are way more questions than answers in this series. And as most of you (afaik) already have expressed, you are welcoming it with open arms.

All this thread seems to be showing is the stupidity of others who are jumping to conclusions based on a 2-minute trailer and a promotional website that's devoid of any worthwhile information. And that, my friends, is fucking sad.

I mean, I can understand having doubts and stuff about the game. I have my doubts about the cutscenes. I am glad there will be some, but others won't be. So as a solution I hope they make it so you can skip them if you want.

The story needs to be nurtured more, I mean... Pretty much, if you play the games you don't know shit about Samus or other things without reading the Manga. Atleast I think. >_<

This is the gap in the timeline, there needs to be questions answered.
---

In conclusion, you can have doubts, but come on.. You know little about the game. So don't make a big judgment over it. Now I am interested in this D-Rockets company that is doing the cinematics. So this is their site if any of you are interested. http://www.d-rockets.co.jp/ z:)

Back to the topic at hand though... the fact that he did respond, just further proves how much of an trollish prick he truly is. Since he clearly felt threatened by us "anonymous forum dwellers" he felt very inclined to write a rebuttal. Like he had some incredibly high stature or reputation to uphold and defend. Any true journo with an ounce of integrity would have probably just laughed it off and ignored it. Or at least not have gone on the tirade that he did - picking apart our posts one-by-one and responding to them, making sure he rubs us the wrong way in return.

Who does shit like that? (<-- hypothetical) o_O
