Failure analysis video

Postby Mayan Mystery » 12.21.12 11:54pm

I think there are way too many videos out there that are completely dedicated to rating other m. What I plan to do is make a 2-4 part video on an in depth failure analysis of M:OM. Basically explaining what went right, what went wrong, and how its problems could be avoided in the future. Just an fyi, if I do it I will do my best to make it extremely objective and add my personal opinion into it as little as possible. This will be similar to a layout of a failure analysis for a plane crash or a sunk cargo ship.

I just wanted to know, how many people on this forum would actually bother to watch it? Again, my opinion of the game will be kept out of it. It will be entirely based on statistics and extremely meticulous analysis. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

Uh yeah, what type of "meticulous analysis" are we talking about here?
How can you be "completely objective" when you are talking about "what went right" and "wrong"?

I'm talking about playing through the game several times, watching several videos of analysis, and maybe even take a few surveys. I will attempt to stay completely objective by not placing any statement of my own on whether the game was good or bad in the video. Of course, no source will be completely unbiased, and I am no exception. I will try to avoid being too harsh or too soft on the game and make sure what I say is as close to accurate as something as subjective as "what makes a good game" can be. I will throw some of my opinions in here and there, but I will use them as side notes rather than ammunition. I will also make sure that I do not just explain what it is, but rather, how can this game can be used as a tool to figure out what a perfect Metroid game should look like based on what has worked for this game, other metroid games, and what new things fans want to see. I will probably use this forum as my biggest resource.

I will attempt to make this video constructively critical of the game, rather than just critical or laudatory.

So, how exactly do you plan to be any different from the multiple other people who have done the same thing? I've seen 2 or 3 youtube objective analyses and I imagine there are many more out there.

I don't mean to wreck your enthusiasm, but the way you phrased your posts made me think that you thought these kinds of reviews didn't exist.

I'd watch it and discuss/debate, but honestly, is there anything new to be said about this game?

If you do make it, please don't make make it 5 parts spanning 25 minutes. I like analysis but not that much to watch another one of those.

The last comment in the Other M gameplay discussion forum was made in May of last year. People really just don't care now, because Other M isn't worth it, whether you're a fan or not.

Instead of making a video about Other M, make a video about a Metroid game you actually enjoy, and encourage people to play that game. Bonus points if it's Metroid 2, because that game is horribly underappreciated.
Suckers.

What Doc said. Metroid could use some good press, and point new players in the "right" direction.
