Thats because of how the room works, under the stairs and walkways there is nothing, so you shouldnt be able to jump over any ledge there. If they let you, there is potential for some sequence breaking and secret worlds
Well, then the way the room works is stupid. There is absolutely nothing logical or rational about preventing the player from obtaining the upgrade that way. He's clearly got enough elevation and distance. For a series that is renowned for its brilliant level design, this is an embarrassing low point. This isn't even a matter of linearity vs. non-linearity; it's an issue of basic reasoning vs. stupidity. The fact that the game places an invisible barrier to prevent you from obtaining an upgrade in an entirely logical way is STUPID. As a brief tangent, I'd say that bottomless pits in Metroid are a bad idea. But if they had to be there, why couldn't you just take some damage and be transported back to the platform? The main reason is that the developers want you to play the game the way they want you to play it. They want you to obtain that upgrade their way, even if there is a more sensible way. It's completely antithetical to the spirit of the franchise to this point.

Ugh. I encountered that Main Sector first bathroom freeze glitch again, this time during the postgame content. Meaning I'm forever stuck at 99% since it starts you back at the ship immediately after beating that boss.

I don't think I've ever seen something like that from a Nintendo game, much less a Metroid game.
Yeah, I had trouble with that room at first too. i was like what the hell? Speaking of stupid rooms. How about the hanger where your ship is parked? The doorways to it are locked after you meet Adam and his crew for absolutely no reason at all. The only way back to it is to sneak around and find a secret passage. Which is also the only way to get the power up. I missed the power up on my first play through and only got it after I returned after the credits. At first I tried going off to the side of the hanger and climbing the stairs. Which doesn't work because of invisible walls. I only found the secret passage later because I was goofing around and setting power bombs off in every room.

I've been meaning to post about this one for a while. It's very similar to the glitch mentioned earlier regarding a missile tank that reappeared in Sector 3.
It occurred during my second play through. I had just entered Sector 3 and finished off at Goyagma for a bit. At this point, I had picked up two accel charge - one from the bathrooms in Sector 1, and one from earlier in Sector 3 (where you bomb the floor to reveal a morph ball launcher/booster). However, when I checked my stats, only one accel charge was listed. It bothered me for the rest of the play through until I went back to clear out Sector 1 for items, and checked the bathrooms again out of curiosity. And there it was, the accel charge, back in the cubicle.
Perhaps this is a recurring glitch that rears its ugly head every now and then. I suppose it's nothing too major but it has the potential to mess up speedruns, and over all enjoyment of the game. However, I found it quite interesting and rather humorous. That's why I decided to post it here, and also to back up the similar missile tank glitch posted previously.

I ran into that problem once. I just assumed that meant I picked it up, died, and didn't re-pick it up.

I may be a bit late in here, but the way you described this makes it sound much more like your Wii lens needs cleaning because it simply isn't reading the disc properly. The Wii can have trouble with dual layer discs if the lens isn't clean, and Other M is dual layer.

The Primes (Corruption especially) had these too -- the main difference is that they didn't go putting tempting items on the other side, so most of the time you never noticed.

This happened to me once. I freaked out and thought my game froze but it eventually caught up.
It happened a lot to me . Especially when I used speed booster. HUm... a glitch... mmm.. Well i got a mini-one . The ceiling from a holographic room , when you shoot at it after the holo is shut off, it don't impact with it . Well , it don't impact on it even On.

It may be that the last post in this topic is a while ago but I hope it's still ok. =P
So, let me think, I have encountered...three more or less little glitches in this game.
The first thing was that I'm sometimes able to charge a Power Bomb with the A Button which is kinda...weird. Though I happened to do it more than once, I have absolutely no idea how the hell it works.
Second glitch has to do with the first boss. The issue now is that i was unable to beat him... I can't exactly remember but I think he was in the second form (the eye thing). I wanted to kill it with the beam but suddenly it disappeared but the boss had still some energy left so I could only reset my Wii. After fighting him another time, I noticed how it might have happened: If you kill the eye with your beam and you're not fast enough, it, well, "goes" back to the body and you have once again to fight the form without the arms. So my guess is that I somehow managed to kill it exactly in that same moment it was refusioning or whatever with the body. It's not game-breaking and if you're interested, I might still have the video somewhere, though I only started recording after it happened.
Last one is really just a tiny one. One of the carnivorous plants fell through the ground when I fired it with the beam. It happened in the big circular room in Sector 1, not the one where you get the Seeker Missile but the one after that. By the way, I've got this one also recorded if anyone's interested.
Waitin' for your responses.

I recently got a used copy of Metroid Other M and am in Sector 1. I slid down the purple tube to what should be the War Wasp Hive battle and cannot move at all! All I can do is look around and I spent probably a good 20 minutes trying to lock on to anything. I even tried reloading the game and no good. Is this a glitch? Did I miss something or do I just have a bad copy?

So, can you move around at all, or are you stationary? So basically the battle isn't triggered. Maybe you managed to skip over something? At any rate, those are kihunters, not war wasps.

I had that problem. Just keeping trying. It took me considerably longer than 20 minutes. There is a single zero (small grub-like thing) you are supposed to point your camera at for a certain amount of time, but I couldn't see it, so I just randomly moved the camera around until the cutscene triggered. You can't just spin, you have to move a little ways, then stop. If you are moving when you pass over the grub the cutscene won't trigger, you have to point at it then stop (hard to do if you can't see it).

OK, I haven't played in a while. So, you're in search mode? If I remember right, it's the eggsacs on the floor that are significant. Maybe? Now that I think about it, that is the first time search mode happens. Isn't it? Had me confused as well, the first time.

No, I am pretty sure it was one little tiny zero.
