Wow, really? I remember before prime came out there was a petition attempt to stop it or something. o.o

So Other:M really is the most polarizing game in the series?

Well before it came out, there was a lot of skepticism. "WTF FIRST PERSON METROID AMERICAN DEVOLPERS!?" Then it actually came out, got universal acclaim from just about everyone(still sitting at #7 on the All-Time Best list of Gamerankings), won multiple Game of the Year awards, became the fastest selling Metroid game ever...etc.

Other M has been getting mixed reception before it came out. Then it did come out, and it still gets mixed reception. And not just from hardcore Metroid fans, but the critics too(almost every other main Metroid game of the past decade has above 90% on Gamerankings, Other M has 79%, I believe). It contains what is probably the most controversial Metroid scene EVER with the Ridley encounter, the sales aren't that great...I honestly believe that's gonna be the legacy Other M leaves behind: the most polarizing mainline Metroid game yet.

Yeah, but that died down after Prime was released and people got to play it. There was a petition against Other M too, but things came out the other way around: things got much more heated once people actually got to play the game.

Prime caused a huge split before it came out. Once it did though the majority of the haters were quelled and whilst there's still a fair deal of people that never liked Prime and still don't; the majority accepted it. Fusion was pretty polarizing; not so much as Other M, but still quite controversial and to this day a great deal of people consider it the worst in the series and a great deal of Other M haters blame Fusion for "starting" it (Don't ask, I'm too lazy to try and make any sense of that argument). They were both fairly controversial, but nowhere near the split Other M has caused.

If memory serves Echoes actually caused quite a stir though, although it didn't last for very long.

Can we report overt positivity too? "OMG METROID: OTHER M BEST GAME EVER I LOVE IT SO MUCH SO DAMN BRILLIANT I TOTALLY CRIED WHEN BLAH BLAH BLAH"

How is that any better than complaining? If someone has an opinion, something they can support with arguments and be articulate about it, they should be able to say it, positive, negative, or otherwise.

If everybody had the same opinions, it'd be a really boring message board.

Who's being driven off? If people think the board's discussion is bogged down with the negative aspects, they should make threads for the positives. Should those threads chronically have negative opinions in them, that would be worth reporting. But do you see anyone at all complaining in the "Things you like?" thread?

I don't really think people that dislike Other M dislike it as a whole. Most Other M opposers seem to be complaining about the story or how Samus is portrayed, but I think the majority of them love the gameplay despite how linear the game may seem to them. Overall I just don't understand why some people hate this game so much, I loved it, my favorite Metroid game to date, the story really isn't so bad and as for Samus.....well, you either like her or you don't. She didn't differ much in the game to what I thought she was always like.

Me and my Skype fellows are really getting tired of the Other M section because it just turned into, "bitch bitch bitch." Several of us were asking why we even came onto the MDb anymore. The fun was completely dried up.
