He hasn't made anything good since Super Metroid and I will give him props for that but those were games that involved Gunpei also so is wasn't just Sakamoto. Fusion is not good and it started the whole telling us what to do and deviated from Metroid. Fusion was my 1st Metroid since Super and after a few times of the computer telling me where to go I stopped playing it. Why Zero Mission exists is a mystery to me. Sure it has prettier graphics but they added cutscenes(go figure Sakamoto) and make it super easy. Besides to me Super Metroid is a Metroid remake and it is miles better than Zero Mission.

He made some good games back then but he obviously doesn't have it anymore and Nintendo needs to remove him from Metroid. Metroid is already a game that doesn't really sell a lot so him splitting the fanbase with Other M is not a good idea. I have a feeling that Other M may not sell well at all and this will be the last we see of Metroid for some time unless they try to reboot again..

As for me though, I will no longer just go out and buy Metroid...especially if it involves Sakamoto. He is the George Lucas of video games. He was involved with great games back then but boy does he suck it up now.

People who express their opinion as fact annoy me. Just because you don't like fusion or zero mission doesn't make them bad or needless games. I really don't get the lucas comparison either. All he did was take a series that had next to no story and add a story to it.

Sorry to annoy you. To me there are bad and needless games, sorry you took it that way. The next time I say it is bad I will end with "to me" from now on....cool?

i think if i go into the 2d metroid game subsection of this site, and then create a thread saying "i think super metroid is an absolute piece of shit that noone should have to suffer through", i think people are going to say im directly assulting the game lol

or am i misinterpreting your message?

This kind of reminds me of the Sonic fanbase when every new game comes out. Mixed critical reception, a lot of fans dislike it/disappointed with it and want it more like the old games, a lot of fans actually like it quite a bit and want the series to go in that direction.

And as a pretty big Sonic fan, let me just say that being the Sonic fanbase is the LAST thing anybody needs to aim for.

Still, I can't remember the last time a decades-old series known for universal acclaim with pretty much every mainline video game release, with what many consider some of the greatest games ever made, went on to release such a different and polarizing title. The only thing that come to mind is perhaps Super Mario Sunshine, but that game still sold 5 and half million copies, and it got great reviews from just about everybody. I just never seen anyone say "Super Mario Sunshine is my favorite Mario game!"

Well you did say "I think", so at least we know its your opinion and not one of those "This game fucking sucks, people who enjoy this are stupid, FACT" kind of GameFAQs troll posts.

They both let their fans think they knew what the story was like, then turned it on its head in a way that got rid of some of the things people were first attracted to. They both have a lot of good ideas and a lot of bad ideas, and apparently no ability to distinguish between the two (the fact that the latter don't get corrected before publication implies stubbornness).

I am also of the opinion that, earlier in their careers, both of them had their worse traits kept in check by their co-writers. Once they became big names, they started to feel immune to criticism, and the bad started showing.

cant please everybody, people need to realise that, people, no matter how much it is praised, for example, will not like super metroid, even go as far to say they hate it. of course i doubt noone here is like that, there are people out there

At least Metroid doesn't have a cycle like Sonic and Zelda... yet!

Well yes, but there doesn't seem to be such an widely mixed reception to Super Metroid or Metroid Prime. I personally don't like either one of those games, but I know they are almost universally loved and often called two of the greatest games ever made.

I'm not too familiar with the sonic franchise, but I always got the idea that the majority of sonic fans hated the 3D games. Kinda like how most metroid fans dislike hunters, but again not familiar with sonic or his fanbase.

There are kind of two distinct Sonic fanbases at this point; the fans of the 2d games, and the fans of the later (mostly) 3d games. I don't find the writing in the later games to be very good. (The earlier games had almost none, so it wasn't an issue for that reason more than the 2d games actually having better writing.) So far, the only modern Sonic game that I've particularly liked has been Sonic Rush.

Disclaimer: I'm not really much of a Sonic fan anyway, outside of SatAM.
