I got it! <3

The combat is AWESOME. I feel like SUCH an agile bada** and my charge beam goes BOOOSHUUAAAM-! My only qualms so far with the controls is that I can't walk. The only way to take my time through a corridor and soak things in is to go forward in a jerky manner, and the facility where they forced me to walk seemed like an embarrassing design choice. (If I'm going to be walking to creepy music, give me some CLUES to look at, at LEAST.)

Way too damn linear with some duplicate rooms. Samus says retarded things. Some of the areas look CRAPPY; Twilight Princess, which was released on the gamecube, looks better. The artists should be ashamed of themselves. Also, where the crap is my lighting effects? I don't care about bloom- I want my beams to cast shadows. We had that on the N64- it should be a STAPLE by now. And why aren't I in reflective surfaces? Bullcorn. The pickups are generally easy to find, especially when they're marked on the map. Nice. -_-;

Adam isn't as bad as I was expecting, except at the beginning when he was like "YOU DON'T BREATH. UNLESS I SAY SO." Unless he was addressing the whole troop there, in which case I'd feel a LITTLE better. Otherwise, I think Samus should've felt a bit more indignant. I thought she HATED taking orders? (At least in Fusion.) I snark back at him myself and forget about it, because I want to have a good time. He can tell me what to do when he has a super alien powersuit and has saved the universe a few times.

The enemies are BAUSS. Lots of them look obviously inspired from Cambrian-era critters. Whenever I come to one of those stupid, creepy little Phantoon-esque things I scurry by as FAST as I can. I literally go "EEEEE-" whenever I have to run by one. Can't wait to be able to smack them in their creepy little eyes...

The area where you find Maurice's body is SO COOL. I do think they should've had a few colorful nodules or something, though. Otherwise, makes me wish we were on an actual planet.

So far verdict: It's close to the real McCoy- let's try it again. And get rid of the friggen' group think that let some of these stupid design decisions pass. (Why isn't my free look a FREE LOOK? I shouldn't have to press B to look around, not until I want to lock on something. Otherwise, GET OUT OF MY WAY.)

Otherwise, I am enjoying myself. :P

Oh, and about the graphics, try not to be too critical. They are still pretty. The thing I should mention is that I read a few times at some sites that Metroid: Other M is a huge game. By huge, I mean it uses up almost all of that disc you are playing it on. I think. Kind of reminds me of the days when Super Metroid came out. It was the largest SNES game. zO_o

And part of what makes the game so "huge" is the presence of a) dense fmv cutscenes b)Mostly orchestrated soundtrack and c) voice-acting.

Overall, I was mightily impressed by the game graphically outside the CGI (which are already phenomenal)-- some of the water effects are pretty nice, and the true face of the boss
Nightmare
has a level of smooth gooeyness that, to me, wouldn't look at all out of place in a 360 game. In fact, it kinda reminded me of that smooth gooeyness found on that toady mini-boss in Twilight Princess's water dungeon. But yeah, some areas could've possibly had more tweaking, like the lava that looks like lasagna (though it's a very definite step up from Metroid Prime's grainy lava). Also-- and some MD reviewer noticed this, not me-- that some of the "icicles" hanging from the ceiling are sets of flat pixels when looked at from first-person view, heh.

Well video takes up close to 60% of the 8GB disc; audio takes up less than 500MB, which is about right if you consider the videos all play back at a bit less than 2 hours. Video will always take up more space than anything else - that's why Final Fantasy 7 takes up three discs and 8 takes up 4. That's also why Resident Evil was the first game to take up two CDs. 500MB of audio is pretty extensive for a Wii game (usually more like 200-300MB), though about half of that is voice acting. Anyway, analyzing how 'good' a game is based on how much of a disc it takes up or how much video it uses is pointless, kind of like saying the more you pay for something, the better it is (it's not).

It's metroid. I expect my environments to look CLASS A, not sci-fi generica number 45. (To their credit, I know there's only so much you can do with that.)

I was more cutting that argument before it developed :AH:

I found the ice caverns to be interesting, the jungle mildly so. Lava land was only interesting because of the Magdolites, but yeah, fire, ice, and jungle is really generic. I guess Avatar showed you could make a jungle that's original, but beyond this I think it all comes down to the things that happen within those space. As a tangent, Lords of Darkness has AWESOME art design and makes genre locations look fresh.
