Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
Other M was a big project, I wouldn't doubt this was the most expensive and demanding metroid ever produced (if all metroids had been made within the same economy I mean), it has massive amount of voice acting (with multiple language translations for more regions besides the EU), lenghty great looking cgi animations, with bigger advertising than usual, made entirely on a new (I think) wii engine, with a collaboration between three companies, etc... The game must have made a profit no doubt, but for all ]I mentioned, it would have needed more sales to not be considered a failure. |

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
Remember how for like a week or two Amazon was selling this game for $15 but buying it for $16? It was like they were paying you to speedrun the game. That's if people even bought it then. The idea of a game not selling at -$1 is hilarious.
Except for the people who want another sidescroller... ... |

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?God, I hope they don't make a sequel. I hope they have enough sense to pretend this game never happened.

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
This will never happen. They will probably learn from what went wrong and take a break from now before considering a sequel. |

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
I don't know. The "ignore it and move on" attitude worked great for Capcom towards Devil May Cry 2, Resident Evil Survivor/Gaiden, and Twisted Metal 3&4. Sega went even further by discontinuing Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 just to ensure less people would be exposed to it and they could try and rebuild their tarnished brand. I mean, honestly, truly honestly, I would not mind at ALL if Other M was never brought up or addressed again in a true "Chuck Cunningham Syndrome" sort of way. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChuckCunninghamSyndrome. I'd care even less if the next game was utterly fantastic in a "nobody even remembers Street Fighter I" sense by being so ground-breaking, high-quality, and timeless that even if Other M was brought up again, nobody would care because the new game was just THAT good. ![]() |

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?I was thinking of Virtual Boy when talking about the forget-it-and-move-on concept.

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
As in decanonizing M:OM? |
|
Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?I hope not. After playing Ninja Gaiden 3 I don't think I want Team Ninja near any future Metroid games.
I know some of the best sequels are a result of devs learning from massive fuck-ups, but man they've actually regressed since Other M. |
|
Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
But team ninja would be supervised and they would have to comply with whatever decision was made from whoever was in charge. In this case TN would only be able to suggest things. With their own games, team ninja only has themselves as supervisors. |
|
Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?Supervised by who? Sakamoto? A lot of people still believe that that was the game's biggest detriment.
Now, as regarding this thread, I was actually all for a game like Other M (Action-wise) but with a much needed gameplay overhaul to make it more strategic and less repetitive but still retain key Metroid concepts as well, with Team Ninja for the gameplay (I disagreed with their involvement with the art but w/e). But after the reaction and design choices of Ninja Gaiden 3 I'm not too sure anymore. Of course, I'll need to play the game for myself before I make a concrete judgement, but still...maybe this game (and a possible sequel) really should just be forgotten.
You actually got your hands on the game? Is it really that disappointing? "Cut! There are no second chances for actors that fall to the abyss. Await your second casting in the darkness forever." - The Night of Wallachia

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
No. Just no. Not everyone likes the FPS style of the Primes, so no, not everyone would be happy. And I for one would be pissed to be shut out of another Metroid game, especially if it was the main storyline. I personally would not mind the general playstyle of M:OM making a return, but a sequel to it entirely? No. Let's move on. |
|
Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?Yeah, I agree, no more Prime please. Though I would definitely want a sequel to Fusion.

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
When you find yourself saying "don't worry, we'll closely monitor them to make sure they don't fuck it up," that's usually a good sign that you need to pick a different developer. Preferably one that better understands and shares the same vision for the game that you have. They could still make a good game, but finding a developer that you have more confidence in would probably yield a better game. ![]() |

Re: Any chance this game will get a sequel?
But isnt that exactly why they were chosen and how development went? As far as I know team ninja didnt have full creative control, all they did was gameplay and engine work. All Im saying is that they can make all the crappy NG games they want, if they had to do another otherm it would be under different conditions. Is not their IP. |
