Remember when MGS2 came out and everyone hated Raiden? And then MGS4 tried to fix him, but they went way overboard and turned him into a break dancing katana wielding cyborg? Or how everyone hated how Spencer looked in the grim and gritty Bionic Commando reboot, so the next game went with an overly silly design? Sometimes game developers just overcompensate. You can even argue that Nintendo did it with Link. So...What if the same thing happened to Samus? What would it look like?

You're misunderstanding me. What would overcompensation for Other M look like?

One possibility is that she may become completely narcissistic and wise-cracking in an attempt to make her 'tougher' and 'badass' again. Because of this, she will probably talk alot and be really annoying.

That's assuming they find even worse writers* than Other M's. Which I would argue is a herculean task.
To answer okey: Metroid Prime 4
Also, Apothem, please URL that image, because it is wasting a lot of space.

okey wrote:You're misunderstanding me. What would overcompensation for Other M look like? What did I misunderstand? You explicitly inquired how Nintendo might overcompensate with Samus. You never stipulated a specific fashion of overcompensation. Your given examples were also largely aesthetic in nature. As such, here I presented a visual example of Nintendo, Team Ninja, whoever, visually overcompensating for Samus' perceived lack of sexy. You CAN NOT look at that image without noticing her improved "assets." Maybe that's just the ridiculous suit redesign. There's absolutely no excusing those heals, though.
As far as her personality's concerned, she'd first have to have one to overcompensate for. Technically, at this point, ANY personality would be overcompensation.

I never quite understood the redesign with the Zero Suit. I love mystery more. But I think with ZM they were trying to be daring, and push designs to its limits.

I think they just wanted Samus in a latex suit. The whole "I'm really going to enjoy drawing this" etc.

Why not top it off with an eye patch while we're at it?

Samus with an eye-patch would have improved Other M an immense amount.
Suckers.

I agree with this. If Nintendo went overboard pulling a 180 after "Other M", this is probably what would happen. Other than "talking alot and being really annoying", I would think it would also make her more unlikeable. It's too cliche and out of place.

For the record, I like the zero suit, just check my avatar. What I hate is the M:OM redesign. And those FUCKING heels.

Samus being turned into a poor man's Nathan Drake (or worse, a poor man's Bayonetta) seems pretty realistic Some other possibilities: 1) Samus goes back to being a silent protagonist, but she now has an NPC sidekick that's amazed by everything she does. 2) The tone of the series is changed drastically. Future games are either cartoony and wacky, or gritty and 'westernized'. 3) The next game goes out of its way to explain or retcon everything about Other M. (Clones! Mind control! Other M was a dream! Other M was a movie made by the evil feds meant to discredit Samus after the events of Fusion!) Apothem wrote:For the record, I like the zero suit, just check my avatar. It would probably be for the best if they ditched it altogether.

I could see the "Dark & Gritty" reboot treatment happening, and I'd likely shoot myself if it did. That sort of thing NEVER works out well, especially when a Japanese developer helms the project. It'd ruin the franchise entirely, likely reducing it to just another shooter. Makes my stomach churn just thinking about it.
Good thing Nintendo doesn't think that way.
I hope.

I don't think that'll happen. Nintendo puts too much substance in their series for them to let that happen. The only example that Nintendo overcompensated one of their series was Legend of Zelda by the OP. BTW, okey, I was just wondering. What did you mean when you said "You can even argue that Nintendo did it with Link." Are you referring to Twilight Princess after Wind Waker?
