Confirmation or Speculation?

Postby SpareChange » 08.11.11 8:46am

This article, I was kind of floored, but figured it would happen, and it appears the title is misleading.

Here is the link: http://nintendoscene.com/2011/06/15/new-metroid-game-coming-to-a-wii-u/

Quote in the article from Nintendo’s developer and producer of the Wii version of Animal Crossing, Katsuya Eguchi:

“I can’t give you any details now, but I’m sure there will be a new Metroid release making use of the new controller, not just to control Samus and her ship but also to give the player a new source of information. Maybe the player is looking at the screen but has the information that they need to defeat the enemy in their hands. You could look through the screen and scan your enemy and find where its weak-spot is.”

It seems like a mix of both. He obviously cannot just simply say, "Yeah there's 100% going to be a new Metroid" even if there is one or not, but he's pretty much in a position like many of us would like to see, "It's not confirmed but it's pretty safe to say you'll see a new Metroid."

I mean, it does make the most sense. I'd love to see a new Prime game, or maybe a game in the main timeline on the Wii U, just done in a Prime style. Metroid Prime has to be my favorite game in the series.

Then again, anything can happen. I think it would behoove Nintendo to release a 3DS Metroid in the vein of either a post-Fusion or a sequel/parallel to Hunters while we wait for a Wii U Metroid (which, as far as we know, isn't even in development yet, but I could be wrong). Portable Metroids are always good news.

Aye, this has made the rounds before. It should definitely be taken as speculation. Katsuya Eguchi's simply saying that there will be a Metroid game in the same vein as there will be a Mario and Zelda title for the Wii U, using Metroid more as an example of the tablet controllers possibilities than as an outright confirmation of a new game. We shouldn't expect any definite announcements from Nintendo concerning software until the Tokyo Game Show at the earliest, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they held off on such news until E3, so as to try and "steal the show" again.
The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.
