I'm not so sure. I could see her sleeping in the ship during the primes, since those took longer, but I was always under the impression that the 2d games were fairly close to realtime. Sleeping in save rooms is probably a bad idea. Those planet's she's on are usually pretty dangerous.
[/quote] While I agree I think the 2D games were quick infiltrate, destroy, leave scenarios, I do not think it would be far fetched to think that Samus couldn't have slept during Metroid 1 or Super Metroid. After all, she did grow up on the planet and would surely know how to survive if she needed to. I would think that in general, any place that she visits that is remnants of the Chozo civilization would be easy for her to survive in if she was in a 'stranded' type situation. Though one would also have to take into account the atmosphere as well. If you were to drop her on Talon IV, that's an easy place to camp out at. Aether, during the Ing invasion would probably not have been a smart idea. I would think a ambush by the Ing at night would be likely unless she slept with the lights on (I made a funny ) As for the planets she visits in Corruption, a couple of those seem less hospitable then others and the atmosphere on some is far more toxic. I would think in Corruption since you are traveling between planets and visiting your ship often that placing a sleep routine during the game wouldn't be a big deal, but on the first two, traveling back to your ship seems like an inefficient way to explore a planet if you are limited in distance by the location of your ship.

sharonlover, judging by your mention of atmosphere toxicity, you seem to be assuming she would have to leave her suit to sleep.

If you think about it, Prime savestation cutscenes often started with Samus slouching over a bit, cut to a "save?" dialog, then jumped back to her straightening up or almost yawning... Maybe there's an inferred sleeping while she's standing up (the suit could surely handle that, and it could probably induce sleep and draw her out of it).

Yes that would be my assumption.

Like I said above, it's perfectly feasible that Samus is induced into sleep standing up and her suit holds her there. In the Primes she's even standing on top of an unlimited source of energy, so even if something did attack her she'd just keep regenerating energy

Well, what if they nuked her? (Or some brutal equivelant)

I think its entirely possible that, while she's wearing the suit, Samus doesn't need to eat or sleep very often. Take the moisture suits from Dune, upgrade them to recycle solid waste as well as water, and then add a cocktail of drugs that reduce the body's (and brain's) need for sleep, and Samus might be able to fight literally nonstop for several days on end.

Along with what everyone else said, (I especially like Sylux's idea), it would be very easy for the suit to enduce some sort of hibernation, and, as well as the natural energy gain of sleep, it could speed things up with it's own injections of re-energizing drugs, such as caffeine

Then she would die. Shame they never thought of that.

*beep beep* Major lacerations detected. User dead imminent. *beep beep* Morphine injected. But anyways, if the suit were just to continue to pump caffiene or other drugs into Samus, wouldn't she just die after a while? The human body can't last without sleep. You would go insane.

LAWL! To reply to 1upd, though, I would say that whatever Samus takes is a bit more sophisticated than caffeine, and likely has some training (mental discipline), gene therapy, and nanotech components as well.

That, and really, it only takes her about three hours to annihilate an entire hostile ecosystem, so I guess she needs a lot of down-time after that.

Yeah, it was the blood tranfusion/gene therapy, right? Or did Phazon do it? The best answer would probably be that gameplay times never really exceed 24 hours, and she could certainly hold out that long. She probably sleeps in between games.
