The fact that this website has nothing to do with Metroid at all is astounding on its own, but both the site's primary demographic and the fact that it is actually OLDER than Metroid: Other M by three whole years cements it as quite unintentionally hilarious.

I can't stop imagining Samus with one of those harnesses and the infant Metroid inside. It certainly would have come in handy for stopping the Space Pirates from taking the baby away.

I have often wondered if various parts of the Metroid mythos have actually become memes. Sadly it doesn't seem to be true.
But it would interesting to see if the galaxy within the series could be brought out more. Every planet having its own website could be a fun experience.

Well, judging from Metroid Prime 2, Samus is well on her way to becoming a memetic badass. GF Private Crany couldn't believe that such a powerful bounty hunter could even exist, comparing her to Bigfoot and Santa Clause. After Samus led the Federation to war against Phaaze in Prime 3, however, no trooper is going to be able to doubt the stories of her badassery any more.

Expect to hear stuff like "When the Metroids tried to latch onto Samus, they died of starvation. Turns out that Metroids can only suck life energy, and Samus was just filled with pure badassery."

Well, no trooper except Adam Malkovich's band of redshirts and Colonel Burrito's taco squadron. Apparently, only Anthony keeps up to date on Know Your Meme.

Something I really liked about the sidescrollers (and Prime 1) is that they never felt the need to stop and say "hey guys! see how much of a badass samus is?"

Something I really liked about the sidescrollers (and Prime 1) is that they never felt the need to stop and say "hey guys! see how much of a badass samus is?"

I don't mind it when done well. For example, after the long-ass bossfight with Quadraxis, seeing Samus show off with her landing while his head blows up in the background is cathartic. It's enjoyable because the long effort before it was visibly completed. Also, the badass thing that Samus does in the cutscene is not destroying Quadraxis; the player already did that. Rather, it's window decoration to a moment where the player (And by extension Samus) was badass.

It's when the "badass" moment is not just complimenting the player that it suffers. The only example from the Prime series I can think of is Samus finishing off Ridley at the beginning of Prime 3 by jumping on his head and shooting into his mouth. While it looks cool, I don't see why it was needed when we had already taken down his health. Shouldn't I be the one finishing the fight? But no, Samus defeats Ridley in a cut scene.
