I myself disagree. The game set up atmosphere better than pretty much any game... ever... The limits on ammo added to the tension by forcing you to think before firing off your limited supply, while not being too much of a hinderance because of the way their mechanics for regenerating ammo worked. It also introduced the screw-attack to the prime games, had some of the best bosses of any metroid game (all it was missing was a Dark Ridley ). The only flaws I could find would be the occasional long treks back and forth between areas, but those usually just provided an excuse for me to wander off a bit and pick up a few more upgrades while I was out Edit: Although, this opinion comes from the person who prefers Majora's Mask over OoT so... make of that what you will

I pretty much agree with everything you said except the Ammo system, doc O. Mire. Not just the mechanic, but the beams themselves were way inferior to Prime 1 imo.

Super Metroid all the way! I grew up with it and it influenced all of my gaming preferences since!

They definitely are. Prime's beams were much better than Echoes, and the ammo system was lame.

Metroid Prime Hunters has my vote. The title really stands out among the rest in having the option to play as hunters besides Samus, each providing to an expansive amount of abilities to take advantage of. While I've spent more time playing in the arenas with bots than the adventure, I love that single player experience. Exceptional quality in the blend of atmosphere, music and environment designs combined with an ambiguous, interesting story seasoned with a variety of memorable gameplay segments resulted in an engrossing experience worth replaying beyond triple digits. So many great moments had and still to have with this one, even something simple like my next headshot kill.

Hmm. I'm not going to knock you for having a different opinion, but I can guarantee you you are probably in a very small minority of people who think Hunters is the best Metroid game.
I don't know, for me it was lacking most of what made Metroid awesome. But again, that's just me.

I know I'm in a very small minority, and it does not concern me. Hunters got me into the rest of series, and I've probably put in well over five times the amount I've spent with the rest of the series combined into the game. This is one of many incredible moments in that playtime.

As I said, I don't mean to knock you on it. It's just interesting.

I cast my vote for Prime 3. Not really because of the gameplay, although that is awesome, but because it is the apex of perhaps one of the greatest video game series I have ever played and capped of what I feel to be one of the best video game stories I have ever played and it brought what I liked about both Prime 1 and Prime 2 into one game. It was just a fantastic experience all around. Outside of the Trilogy as a whole, I would have to say Fusion for the story it told. A story I feel that made the bottlenecked path the game forced you into worth it. Truely Fusion's design actually made the lack of freedom a key aspect of the experience I feel and makes the final act of the game so much more worth it. But Prime 3, definately Prime 3. doc O. Well considering what happens in Majora's Mask and what happens in Echoes...that makes a surprising amount of sense.

Reading your post, I realized:
Fusion's lessened player freedom is an unintended mirror to Samus' lessened freedom.
Interesting.

Interesting.
I really do not think it was unintentional. Too much of the gameplay is designed to make the player feel like Samus for things to be unintentional. Even if it was, I certainly do not want to think of it as such. I like to think they knew what they were doing. Just this once.

Although it would've been better to not have the beam ammo like in Prime 1, the ammo system was fairly good. If you run out of ammo, you can fire a normal shot by charging the beam like you would for a charged shot. Not good for combat but it's good enough to open a door, turn on a portal, etc.

True, but that's the lame part.
I don't want to charge my beam up to open a door. Those Luminoth engineers need to take lessons from the Chozo engineers.

You don't have to. It's for when you run out of ammo.
