Let me get my film degree first, kids, then I'll work on it. In all seriousness, most of my brain knows a Metroid movie would be an absolutely abominable idea. There's not a lot of talking, not a lot of plot, and the main character's face isn't really seen for most of it. And yet...some part of me wants it to happen, and in fact wants to make it happen. There is potential for a very deep, very terrifying, very exhilirating film. There is also potential for a horrible, horrible disaster. Anyone who isn't a die hard fan will destroy it. And even some who are just might.
Metroids are not pets. Metroids are not to be used for target practice.

In the words of Apothem a metroid movie would be a cinematic abortion! let them screw up Halo first with a movie...then we will see. VGM out...
Super Metroid, the most perfect game ever created! Period!

With Other M being more story-driven, a Metroid movie may not be out of the question. They would have to be very careful with it, though. And it would certainly benefit from Sakamoto's input.
Don't be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams.

I dunno, is Neill Blomkamp still doing it? Because I think he could pull it off. CRtheMighty wrote:There is potential for a very deep, very terrifying, very exhilirating film.
Yeah, I would think ideally it would have a sort of Alien/s feel, but more fantastical.

Halo doesn't need screwing up.

I think it could work if it wasn't a feature per say, but something like a short film.

I don't think the movie will or should be made. Metroid just isn't a household name, at least among non-videogamers. The only way they could really make the movie is to either a) make the movie about one of the games, but adapt it so Samus interacts with others b) make the movie about a time where Samus isn't fighting the pirates (and leave non-fans wondering what a Metroid is and why it isn't in the movie) or c) try to make the movie as faithful to the series as possible and have very little dialog/ or overt characterization. I don't think any of these options would produce a good movie that stays true to Metroid.

I think the only way for a truly good Metroid movie to be made would be for it to be sort of an art house, indie kind of thing, and no one is ever going to make a movie like that based on a video game.

If they can't get a Halo movie done (which is WAY more popular) then metroid is out of the question. Plus I hate what hollywood did to harry potter.

Give the project to M. Night Shyamalan and it will kick ass.

Give me the title of one good video-game movie and I will think that a Metroid movie is a good idea.

The problem isn't that it's hard to adapt a video game to movie, it isn't, it's just that video games arn't taken seriously enough for people to even try.

Haha, I have to agree with this. Just look what happened to Avatar: The Last Airbender. The movie is apparently terribly rushed and far different from the cartoon regarding pronunciation of character and place names. I don't even want to think about what would happen to the Metroid franchise if a movie was made...
