Embarassing Deaths

Postby Osutinik » 10.17.10 10:54pm

We all die at one point or another during a Metroid game. But what are some deaths you've considered embarassing looking back?

My most recent one is falling for the "elevator trap" in Other M, during my first playthrough.

The only other notable one, was trying to take on the SA-X around the first encounter, again, during my first playthrough... 8 years ago.

So what are yours? "We" promise not to laugh. :AH:

Most Metroid deaths I can see coming a mile away because that's usually how the games are -you KNOW if you don't have the skill to make it out alive-

However, some things have tripped me up that have been pretty not-cool:

Ridley 1% run, around the 25th attempt, I finally manage to kill the damned thing, only to be fucking charged by the Core-X and die in one hit.
I was very very mad that night.

I decided a long time ago that Hunters was so terribly programmed that any death was not my fault and certainly not embarrassing.

Yeah way to go, NST. I love how Weavel can literally blow me through a wall to insta-kill me.

I know your pain :'( (on 1% run it was even more frustrating!)

----------------

I think the most embarrassing death would be..
TO DIE IN SUPER METROID WITH THE HYPER BEAM AT MOTHER BRAIN FIGHT !

Did someone died ? I'm curious XD . ( but not during the escape though)

It wasn't embarrassing so much as it was amusing/maddening. I was playing Metroid and I was mucking around in Norfair. Probably getting High Jump or Wave Beam or something. Anyways, in Norfair, I got reduced to pretty low health while headed to Kraid (that's right, Kraid is not in Norfair, Kraid is in Kraid and that's where I was headed). Long story short: no energy drops as Metroid is want to do, low health, got to the shaft leading to Kraid's elevator, dropped--out of desperation or accident, I don't know--down the side of it, free-falling.

I didn't hit anything for such a long time.

And then I hit a ripper and died.
Who would expect Metroid: Other M to borrow concepts from Super Princess Peach?

Metroid Prime: I died to the Plated Beetle. Yes, that Plated Beetle. I was already not at full health, but I thought that wouldn't matter because, you know, it's the Plated Beetle. I mistakenly backed into a corner, the thing hit me, and as I tried to jump over it I failed and got whacked again. I tried to back away, realized too late that I'm in a corner, and got smacked a third time. The final part of the Humiliation Conga? I got out of the corner, got it nearly dead, and then, when it was about to charge, I jumped out of its path... And jumped to early back into it.

So yeah, I think I'm the only person to have ever died to the Plated
****ing Beetle. That's pretty embarrassing.
Suckers.

If it makes you feel any better, I got my ass handed to me more than once by the Dark Alpha Splinter on my most recent run through Echoes on Hard Mode. The really sad thing is that its pattern is so simple that even a small child can get it down with little trouble. Actually, I think that, aside from the Boost Guardian, that was the only boss I died to. In fact, I think that boss may have killed me more than the Boost Guardian, although, to be fair, I didn't die more than once or twice to the Boost Guardian in the first place... Still pretty shameful. I don't know what the hell was up with me.

Yeah, it's funny. On that playthrough, I didn't die a single other time (I've played through Metroid Prime A LOT), so that death stands out even more.

I also once died in Zero Mission... To Kraid. I'm such a failure.
Suckers.

When I first acquired Metroid Prime, I died several times either to the Parasite Queen or trying to escape the frigate Orpheon.... After that part, though, I didn't have too much trouble anymore. I required a little bit of a learning curve sometimes back then.

So ashamed...

In Other M, I died as Zero Suit Samus by the fire next to the Docking Bay door while retrieving Adam's helmet. Shame. I was right there.

In Metroid prime 2, i remember killing a bunch of space pirates, and finding a weird lookin canister. Being the trigger happy fellow i am, i shot it at close range, saw the screen go white, then saw Samus's heart rate be reduced to zero.
I looked at my little brother, and say "What the heck was that?!", to which he replied "You didn't shoot a phazon canister, did you?"

At least from the perspective of the Space Pirates.
