Agreed. It has to be full first-party.
And I don't know about a prequel to Samus' story. How much of her past is left to explore? All I can think of is her Chozo training days and the time when she was a soldier for the Federation.

Re: The future of the series
It would be nice to have a Metroid game where there's more to combat than mashing on the fire button (and sometimes having to hit things in the weak spot). It didn't work out with Other M, but it is something I want Nintendo to take another try at.
Is this a realistic thing to ask for? Even Mario and Zelda games are partially outsourced now. |

Re: The future of the seriesWithout Samus? As much as they bruised up her character a bit in Other M, I think it would be a hard pill to swallow for a lot of people, myself included. (Just like I lost interest in Digimon when they got rid of Tai and the gang...yeah I'm a nerd. Don't judge me.
) As far as a total reboot goes, what kind of character would you like to see Samus have in the next game? |

Re: The future of the series
You mean other then ? Lol Vgm out... Super Metroid, the most perfect game ever created! Period!

Re: The future of the seriesMost of us do know who
is, but Rinoa is still pretty new to the fandom, and probably hasn't delved into the comics from pre-2000. :3 She's said that she's only gotten into Metroid in the past year or so. ![]() |

Re: The future of the seriesI know many people have been talking about a Metroid game without Samus...and I just can't accept it. As much as I rant about innovation and change a metroid game without Samus, no matter how good it is, would be a real bummer for me

Re: The future of the seriesWe may have something, here. Now, remember to take rumors with a grain of salt. http://mynintendonews.com/2012/04/26/me ... g-android/
If this is true, then I can't really say how excited I am. This could be big. Now we wait till E3. MZM Hard mode 15% status: Complete

Re: The future of the seriesEDITED AFTER READING ANGEL OF FIRES POST: I hope that comes true. I'd love another Retro collaboration. But the "running Android" thing kind of screams "hoax" to me.
Samus needs to stay in it. I would love a game that simultaneously explores post-Fusion and parts of Samus' past we have yet to see. I'd love a 3rd person game, similar to Other M's perspective BUT WITH A CONTROLLABLE CAMERA. A great opening level to hook in players could be playing a flashback, nightmare sequence as an infant Samus and wandering through the horror and destruction of K-2L and watching helplessly as all this atrocity occurs around you. A new threat is needed for this game. Metroids can play a minor role, but not be the predictable plot device they've grown to become. Perhaps after Fusion, Samus has been going nomad, avoiding Federation space. They seek her out because they need her talents in protecting the Federation. Perhaps Sylux could be the villain, attacking military ships and bases. Samus has to hunt him down, something she has proven to be very proficient at, and she will be forgiven for the destruction of the BSL. She'd go on a galaxy-spanning, multi-planet search, gathering clues as to what Sylux is up to, and uncovering more of the Federation's corruption. Both sides are playing her and she's not sure which is the greater evil. Story would be told through as few cutscenes as possible, narrative shown through gameplay ie Half Life or Bioshock, as mentioned earlier. I'd like more flashbacks, too. Maybe to when she was training. Have a really cool Chozo character that trains her to become the ultimate warrior, someone both Samus and the player come to care about. Then at the end of her training, as a final test, she must survive, alone, on a hostile, isolated alien planet for a long period of time. Then when she thinks its all over, the true final test is to battle against her mentor, one on one... to the death. And she can't kill him. Anyway, sorry for rambling folks. Don't mind me, I'll be elsewhere coming up with other crazy ideas. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: The future of the series
Will remain cautiously optimistic... Also, as to what okey said, it would be nice to have more enemies like the spider guardian, draygon, and metroids . Enemies that don't require the old american, "shoot in its general direction enough times and it's sure to be killed eventually," but are at least a little bit more complex. On to the next topic, it would appear the majority votes for third-person Samus, in which case, I'm hoping for the idea many of us had at E3 2011 where one could see through th visor using the controller, kind of like detective mode in arkham city or using iron sights in... well, pick a game, there are a few hundred to choose from Anywho, I'd like a slightly altered mission structure. Right now, we have: send Samus on a mission, she completes it, game over. I'd like it if they took a page from RPGs and provided multiple missions to try and complete... the only question, were that to happen, would be of what kind of reward completing a side-mission could give Samus. There aren't ever any shops to spend money in, and I wouldn't want them to go so far as to have Samus gaining experience points and leveling up Then there's the story, and, while we could go with the tragic backstory thing (again) it would probably be better to have more external conflict, with internal ones being shown the way they were in MP3 (Samus clenching her fist when one of her allies fell, collapsing from the corruption of phazon spreading through her, etc). Perhaps they could expand upon the role the chozo played, or look more into the political side of things, the Pirates can't be the only group against the Federation, and likewise, there may be more than one client looking to hire a hunter to stop pirate raids. Also, and I've mentioned this one before, it'd be nice to see the team at nintendo utilize the sci-fi even more than they're already doing and add in some... I dunno, alternate dimensions, temporal fluctuations, playing around with the physics of alien worlds, parallel universes (although yes, that last one has been lightly touched upon by Echoes they could probably do even more with it), etc. "Writing is easy. You just stare at a blank page until your forehead starts to bleed." - Douglas Adams

Re: The future of the seriesAre you crazy? Anyway, these rumors are starting to sound plausible now. Much better than when they said Epic was making it. Even Wii U running Android isn't actually completely out of question. A move like that would make the system compatible with hundreds of apps and games right out of the box... |
|
Re: The future of the seriesEpic making Metroid... from my play time with Gears and Bulletstorm (both fun in their own way), that would be like having Michael Bay make a film version of Old Man and the Sea. Thank god I never saw that rumor.
Android would be great to have on there but for some reason I just don't see it... Idk. I guess it's a new concept for me. Que the half assed third party Android Metroid, Mario, etc spin off games... "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."
