http://mynintendonews.com/2012/05/19/re ... sion-saga/All I can say is that if this is real, and if they pull this off, it will be amazing. Also, the site that has put this info out was responsible for the Sony Battle Royal leak a few weeks ago and have had a good track record. *crosses fingers*

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not happening.
Um, like, if they play separate from one another for most of the game, why put them both in the same game?
it just sounds like a fanfiction crossover story, and i'd put more belief into a new Retro Starfox than any inane crossover.

It's kinda sad that something this dumb would still be a lateral move for both series.

Just think about it for a second. Both series cover for each other's lacks. Star Fox has never been something you want to go on foot with. In fact, in Assault, the on foot sessions were one of the worst segments of the game. Metroid has never space battles. The two compliment the other very nicely. Plus, it looks like Retro has taken the fact that Nintendo has put their Metroids in another universe than the main series, so why not do a crossover?
And it's Retro. They haven't had a bad game in recent history. If this is real, then I have full confidence that it will be well made.

Why do you need a crossover to add an element one franchise lacks that the other does not?

Well, I want this. Don't know if it's true, but I want it. My only problem is that it sounds like Sonic the Werehog in that it seems like it will be two separate games that were chopped up, sewn together, and given a shot of electricity. However, if the doctor here is Retro Studios, perhaps the boards won't have to chase this monstrosity angry-mob-style bearing torches and pitchforks. Time moves so slowly. I want E3 so that we can confirm or deny all these rumors already

Ugh, this sounds awful. Retro/Nintendo, please don't do this.

Nothing about this crossover makes sense. Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. worked because the characters involved were purposefully removed from their native elements. This proposed project is little more than two separate games cobbled together, and while ambitious, would only serve to hinder the individual experiences. No one wants ground combat in Star Fox, with the possible exception of Landmaster segments. Likewise, no one is clamoring for space combat in Metroid, though arguably it could prove better suited than ground combat to Star Fox. Forcing the two together only risks compromising both the mechanics and overall experience of the game. Furthermore, while the thought of an officially unified Nintendo universe, even if only in part, is fascinating it doesn't excuse the fact that Samus would be woefully out of place alongside Fox and his anthropomorphized pals, both thematically and contextually. That's not to mention the overwhelming mechanical dissimilarities between the two franchisees. Star Fox is all about fast paced flashy space combat, while Metroid is purposefully methodical and brooding. You'd be hard pressed to find two worse concepts to force together.
If Retro is working on a Star Fox game, they need to make a Star Fox game. If they're working on another Metroid title they need to make it a Metroid title. Not a horrible amalgam of misplaced ambition and farfetched ideas. Either franchise can stand equally well on it own. Fusing them together only betrays Nintendo's complete lack of trust in either and as both consumers and fans that's the last thing we need. Give us Metroid 5. Give us Star Fox: NO MORE GODDAMNED MELODRAMA AND MORE FRAKING ARWING ACTION. Don't give us a game that fails to excel in any one area for the sake of variety.
The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.

I don't have time to read the other article, but this one seems to emphasize that it's quite unlikely, and was concept only, but also that if it was made the two styles of gameplay would be separate. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/19/rumor-star-fox-and-metroid-teaming-up-on-wii-uThis could be god awful, or amazing. If they make Fox and Co a little darker and less silly/annoying I wouldn't mind. On the other hand, just because both games take place in space, doesn't mean they're ideal to mix...

Darren said he has a contact who can't confirm this rumor is false. An ex-employee of Retro who was still around when they started planning the title they're currently working on.
Anyway, this idea could work, but it'd definitely be a challenge. If it were bad, it would kill two franchises and a studio all at once, so it'd better be freaking good. I'd buy it, but I'd certainly be skeptical about it...

This seems like a publicity stunt. I like to think Nintendo and Retro Studios are above publicity stunts.
What's likely is that some bored Retro employees made some goofy crossover pitches and concept art just to amuse themselves (and that the source got their hands on said materials) while working on their actual Wii U project.

That is a very silly idea, so there is no way it could be true. It throws all sense of design out the window.
Its biggest problem is: what type of game is this exactly?
Is it a shooting game or an exploration game?
If you can't summarize what the game is that concisely, then you don't have a game.

Beyond Smash Bros, and maybe a funny cameo here and there, Nintendo doesn't just crossover franchises willy-nilly. This rumor is pretty damn farfetched. Shit, while they're at it, maybe they should do a Zelda-Pokemon crossover or a Pikmin-Kirby crossover or a F-Zero-Mario crossover.

I'm not really sure what to say. While it is a surprise, I would rather just have a Metroid game. Since the Metroid series has lost some respect after Metroid Other M (even though I found it just as good as other Metroid games), it's needs a strong game to regain it's respect.
Seeing how Starfox games have more of a worry in how they would turn out than Metroid, I just don't want the Starfox part of the game to ruin the Metroid part. I'm just worried that the Metroid part won't keep it's atmospheric and exploration gameplay. That's the biggest thing to me.
Also guys I noticed that people that like Metroid more than Starfox hate this idea of a cross-over, while people that like the both series equally, like the idea.
