Samus's Arm Cannon

Postby MetroidKiller » 06.01.12 9:44am

Ok, here's something I noticed.

Samus's arm cannon is always up in front of her visor, right? How does her arm not get tired? A lock maybe?

And I'm sure there's been topics on this, I'm just too lazy too look.

That's a common trope for First Person perspective game where you can shoot.

In the Gamecube version, after idling she'd put it down, but really its just one of those things in a first person game that's kind of unrealistic. Especially with all the bad gunplay in the media.

As said by AlphonseDaya, it's one of those FPS tropes. Aside from the MPT, Samus will keep her right arm outward in Metroid (NES) and MZM. When running and shooting in MZM, SM, and MOM, she'll leave her right arm outward. In RoS, Samus doesn't do this. In MF, Samus doesn't do this, even when running and shooting. She simply holds her arm cannon.

if you want a technical answer, how's this one: her suit is essentially a part of her body, right? But it has enhancements that gives her super-human abilities. So basically raising up her arm is as effortless as it is to raise up one's own arm. And if you need your arm up for a longer period of time, I'm sure there's a point where the effort is taken over by the inner workings of the suit, so that she doesn't require any of her own strength to keep the cannon raised upright. We currently have technology that does this. Think of this, but on a molecular level:

I looked at this thread as some sort of joke aimed at FPS's in general, using Metroid Prime as its vehicle.. but it got serious answers, so... here's mine.

A tripod comes out the bottom of her cannon and sets itself up. :P

It's so you constantly know what weapon (beam) you have equipped at all times without relying on the UI to tell you.
