That's pretty much it though. Hunter characters were barebones as it is so I'm reaaaally being generous by calling Sylux "interesting."

Re: Metroid Prime 4Without going into TL;DR, as well as his possible potential, it really just boils down to the mystery surrounding him, GF, Samus, and the fact that he could very be an actual rival to Samus instead of just another Samus clone. Kanden and The Kriken are runner ups though, since they have potential to be "interesting" villains.

Re: Metroid Prime 4I don't think we need a Metroid Prime 4. The Prime series has been rolled over, and the story of the Phazon infection is complete. Continuing it would be a mistake imo.
We do need a new Metroid game, though, and I would like to see a 3rd person 3D Metroid happen some day. Retro Studios could probably handle it. |
|
Re: Metroid Prime 4No i really don't think there will be a metroid prime 4. Because the phazon story line wrapped up,but i think we will probably a fps metroid game from retro.
But it wont be called metroid prime. Maybe a different sub tittle instead of prime but who knows. |

Re: Metroid Prime 4
Retro's best people left the company and started their own. I don't think they'll be coming back. I would like to see Nintendo team up with another American company and see what happens. You are right however about the prime name thing. Metroid Prime is most likely (I'm not certain so don't quote me on this) a Retro trademark and if anyone else were to use it without their permission it would stir up some legal issues. It would also simply be watering down the series to make a fourth prime game. We need Metroid 5 more in my opinion, or at least a 3D sequel to fusion. |
|
Re: Metroid Prime 4There will never be a Metroid Prime 4.
But there should be a spiritual follow up at some point. Different time in the canon, no Phazon, just the great mechanics. I'd also love a 3rd person Metroid, or a 2.5D remake of Return of Samus. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Metroid Prime 4
I'd like a Metroid game where you can switch between third and first person anytime and either mode is completely optional. As for the 2.D RoS remake, I think I'd prefer traditional 2D with Zero Mission artwork and graphics. |
|
Re: Metroid Prime 4I love the idea of switching and playing the entire game in one perspective or another. Very nice.
As for RoS, I'd go for either my idea or yours. Just put out a new version, please. Compared to Zero Mission and Super, it needs it. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Metroid Prime 4 As others have stated; I wouldn't make it Metroid Prime 4. I would make it either Metroid 5 or a completely now spin-off miniseries. Metroid Prime is over; the most we'll get for a sequel is a game that uses the same model.
Even then, I would try to expand the genre and game mechanics. As making another Prime would be redundant in storyline, it would be redundant in mechanics, as evidenced by the introduction of alternate-dimension mechanics in Echoes and the use of the Wii's controls (and planet-hopping/ship use) for Corruption. That said, one of the less creative ways I would expand the gameplay would be to fix the planet hopping (make it a long game, and feature deep exploration of each planet). Another would also be seeing what else the ship can do, there's probably something more than taxi, bombing, and shipping to be done. Recon maybe? or other types of heavy equipment like mining lasers? (that one's a somewhat weak and strange idea though, it carries the potential to fail terribly). As for the new story needed: If it's Metroid 5, then I would focus on Samus's life after Fusion suit, what life is like without Metroids, and focus on Samus's identity as a Metroid (in the sense of the meaning 'ultimate warrior', in addition to having Metroid-like abilities). The GF seems to be having some corruption or at least dangerous underground stuff going on, so that would feature heavily, maybe make them the enemy (maybe some Ex-GF members as allies? Maybe Sylux becoming an ally?) Other than that, Space pirates could be enemies, but beyond that I'd have no intention of introducing a new main enemy to the series; it's not needed. We have the space pirates, and if we need someone Samus has never fought before, we have GF because of the corruption. On the other hand, if I decide do go with a new miniseries, I might introduce a new enemy, because a Corrupted GF only has a place in a post-Other M/Fusion world. So the reason for not including it would be if the new miniseries is before then, if so I would make a new enemy that ties in to the mystery ship at Corruption's end, just to reference the series that spawned the gameplay model that is to be used. If so, there's a story to be told then, and of course it would have to be told through scan logs. How would this be used to explain the new enemy without the new enemy telling you this? Well, since that ship seemed really alien compared to samus's ship (which is more than likely the result of many ideas within the galaxy), it would be an individual from another galaxy, whose ship would supposedly be able to actually warp instantaneously. Therefore, there would be a communication barrier, and the enemy would simply leave computer logs in binary? maybe telepathic logs like the Alimbics? Who knows...haven't fleshed that out yet. I just need an excuse to make the player discover the story for themselves. For the record, I would be a little unconventional and make the new enemy an individual, not a nationality or group or species. If the enemy is the GF or Space pirates, then we just have the examples in the prime series to go by. BLARG!

Re: Metroid Prime 4If there must be a spiritual successor to Prime, then they need to overhaul the overall shooting/FPS mechanics. Just shooting and side-stepping gets old, fast.

Re: Metroid Prime 4
I'd rather they overhaul the movement. |

Re: Metroid Prime 4Just make her faster and more acrobatic.
I wouldn't mind some of what Mirrors Edge pulled off... Sliding under objects and kicking in first person. It could better tie the 3D and 2D games together. "I am tired of being under the weight of greedy men who don't believe in anything."

Re: Metroid Prime 4
I quite like these ideas, after all I was a little hazy on how I would change the gameplay... BLARG!

Re: Metroid Prime 4
There was more than just shooting and side-stepping. If anything I'd say the Prime games had better combat mechanics than the rest of the series put together more so when we had the wiimote in Corruption. You had to aim precisely at weak spots on larger enemies, sometimes having to switch visors to do so. Having to remove armor from certain enemies to expose weak points was a nice touch. Boss battles were more interesting, using your abilities in imaginative ways. Dodging attacks actually involved dodging not spamming sense move... Things I would add though: Faster movement, the gameworld needs to accommodate it though and the controls need to be done well enough that it can keep up when moving around when needing to shoot precisely. M:OM we got to be fast and agile but we had to stand still to shoot at precise targets with rockets? Don't do that to us again Nintendo. Some Mirror's Edge/Brink style movement, even if it's just basics like vaulting and ledge grabbing it would add a lot I think and combined with the grapple hook could pull off some serious moves. A proper online multiplayer mode featuring GF vs Space Pirates with asymmetrical gameplay that ties in the with SP story, I've described this somewhere else before. |

Re: Metroid Prime 4I would like Retro to return but I'm against the idea of a new Western Developer to try their hand at it. Imagine it would be like when Retro Studios got announced to make MP1, TOTAL CHAOS!

Re: Metroid Prime 4I guess it would depend on the developer.
Something clicked in my head today. In the next Metroid game, be it Prime style or Other M style, in addition to lore/morphology scans, you should be able to unlock files by finding x amount of upgrades. Every five missile expansions, every energy tank, whatever. Anyway, you reach this amount and you unlock a new readable file that's only a few paragraphs long that expand on the Metroid universe a tiny bit, like, say, what, or if, the public thinks about Samus Aran as a whole. Obviously I got the idea from Batman Arkham City, but it was a brilliant way to factor in story elements that aren't necessarily needed in the main storyline.
