Yeah, but I was expecting the next 'Fusion' based game to be a 2D game about Samus. But come to think of it, wouldn't a co-op shooter where you play as the Federation be neat in that situation? Maybe in the single player you'd play as Samus trying to escape the Federation and prove her innocence, and in the co-op you'd play as the Federation trying to arrest her. Interesting...

They could make it feel more alone with, surprisingly, more character interaction. I'm thinking Sylux' haloween fanfic here. Have the two players' characters interact as they explore the vast world, but have the focus be on just exactly how alone they really are. And only have them talk to each other. As the game progresses your partner not only becomes your best ally... s/he becomes your only ally. Up the difficulty level too, so you're forced to watch each other's backs.
Sylux's Halloween fanfic was amazing. A co-op Metroid about the GF marines would probably work out great. Nintendo is probably just afraid that if they leave Samus out of it it will turn into it's own series that they will have to maintain. If only they could be like Valve and make a game that somehow fits into the bigger picture without showing any of the important characters of the series.
Why not just make it Samus and another Hunter? Samus and Sylux caught in a bad situation and forced to band together? The tension between them would only add to the tension of the endless terrors of the depths of the alien planet...

Putting Sylux and Samus together would kind of ruin Sylux's character. But I suppose you could just have Samus and another character, I just thought a co-op system with the GF marines would be cool. Especially after Sylux's halloween fanfic.

GFed Trooper wouldn't work, the partner should be equal to Samus (or close enough). Perhaps a Bounty Hunter sent to kill Samus, but doesn't due to some code of honour. (Realises the GFed lied to him, doesn't want to kill a woman [that excuse would be pretty shit, however], or the classic, Samus saved his life.) I'm thinking he should be a melee fighter, because making someone equal to Samus would contradict what the other games say, he needs to be good in a different way. Only problem is, giving Samus a partner will no doubt end with 13 year old fan boys insisting they're together. That's right, even if the partner's a women.

That's why I think it should be a 2-4 player Coop.
One extra partner would question their relationship
3 extra partners instigates less nonsense (except for the orgy fanboys ¬_¬)
That and 4 player coop would be really fun!

No it won't. Sylux only hates Samus through her past work with the Federation. If she drops them as an employer, and is actually fighting the Federation in a post-Fusion mission, Sylux has a chance at being an ally to her. He only really hates the Federation.
It is never stated whether his hate for Samus is personal or by association. Allow me to correct your statement. Not necessarily, it is unknown as to whether Sylux has a specific dislike for Samus, or they are simply brought into conflict through their employer of choice. If the latter, it is safe to assume that if Samus & Sylux were in the same boat, harbouring a dislike for the Federation, and being hunted, they would have no objections to working together. HOWEVER, if the alternative possibility is true, that is to day that Sylux dislikes Samus for more than her association, say, a previous encounter than he would refuse to help, regardless of similar situations. See? No 'THIS IS HOW IT IS', and I phrased it ever so elegantly.

While I agree about Sylux's motivations, I think the question is more one of whether Samus would work with him. The vibe I got from Hunters is that Sylux is pretty ruthless, willing to kill innocents when they get in his way (granted, this is never specifically stated, but that seemed to be the concept they were going for). I'm not sure Samus would stoop to working with him. Now, that said, it could be that Sylux's reputation is the result of GF propaganda, and that he really isn't a bad guy. If this is the case, then yes, Samus could team up with him.

No, I mean both players would be GFed troops. They'd be much weaker than hunters so they'd have to rely on each other. However, the only problem is that the GF suits probably wouldn't accept modular upgrades like Samus' suit does. Nintendo/Retro could find a way around that, though. Hmmm, I guess you're right. Maybe they could form a resistance or something, depending on how deep the corruption goes. I still think it would take part of Sylux away, though.

I dunno... Sylux strikes me as a sort of anarchist. It's not so much him hating the Federation as it is hating their sense of conformity. Even if Samus does despise the Federation, she at least knows that they're the ones who're keeping things under control in this galaxy, and that they shouldn't be left to die at Sylux's hands just because he and Samus both dislike the political climate.

Depending on how bad it gets and the specific situation, she might not have a choice.

The thing I'm wondering is, if the Galactic Federation sends troops and bounty hunter after Samus (As they no doubt will), would Samus kill them, or try to avoid it? This is really a question of your personal interpretation of Samus's character. Cold-hearted killer, or really a little softy inside. (Throws up)

Does not being cold hearted necessarily make you soft? I think Samus would avoid the troops and hunters whenever possible, killing them only when backed into a corner and left with no other option. Of course, her highest priority besides survival would be getting her name cleared; she'd likely go about this both personally (ie, trying to communicate with bounty hunters that attack her; they might be more prone to listen than military officers) and by using her network of allies and people who owe her favors within the GF to get her side of the story out. This, of course, gives her another, more selfish reason to avoid killing Gfeds. The less she does that, the easier it will be to prove her innocence.

Oh wow... what an amazingly unconventional game. It would either be a huge flop or a hit... You're attacked at every corner by the Federation, and you have to do everything you can to avoid killing anyone and escape. Metroid has never really been about killing things, so it might just work out.
