That was R7038 that mentioned finding the Imperialist.

Right, but you responded. I still don't understand because the Imperialist is something you have to find to continue the game, every time I've ever played I was attacked by Trace as I tried to escape, etc.

You're right on both accounts. He's probably at a spot earlier in the single player, like the Frost Labyrinth or Weapons Complex, where he has come across the red doors and is just wondering about where the Imperialist is located. I'm not sure if that assumptions right, but that's what I got from the question.

Ah, okay, I misunderstood and thought either:

A) he thought the Imperialist was an optional item

Or

B) I am out of the loop on some secret involving the Imperialist.

There's only one weapon you don't need to beat the game, as it is part of an optional boss encounter at the end of the game. You need every single weapon you come across in the game prior to revealing the fifth major area though.

Yeah, but you can't continue the second part of Arcterra without the Imperialist.

As a whole, I think Metroid Prime: Hunters was a great game, but that's all on the multiplayer aspect. The single player, which is what Metroid is known for, was not up to Metroid par. The fact that they recycled two bosses, instant-death sequences, etc. made it feel like a true FPS, which is not what Metroid and the Prime series is about.

I had forgotten about instant death.

Nothing more frustrating than trying to escape the first station, on the section that has giant chunks of hallways missing, and missing a jump by an inch and dying, having to start all over.

NOTHING.

Platforming in Hunters was a really fucking stupid idea, considering that it was never made 100% clear what was stray pixels and what was walkable surface.

For fun I used to move my cursor down just to see myself standing quite comfortably on nothing.

Sometimes the game would realize what I was doing and cause me to fall to my death.

"Quick, before he figures it out, kill him!"

I also got the weirdest sensation that you have no legs in Hunters. More so than other first person games.

I beat it for the first time today and to my surprise I really enjoyed it. It does however have some major problems that really let it down:

*Poor bosses - could they really have not made two or three more bosses to fight? Fighting the same two bosses four times each with only minor differences each time is inexcusable. Neither Gorea fight was great either, quite the anti-climax after Gorea is build up as the ultimate indestructible monster throughout the game.
*Small amount of enemies - Guardians, the floating robot things, the small robot things on the ground, the mochtroid looking things, turrets and the occasional zoomers and shreikbats. Apart from the Hunters I can't think of any other enemies. Such a lack of variety.
*Guardians - these things are so annoying. You have to fight them again and again and again. Infuriating. 'Nuff said. Same goes for the those triangle things that respawn the little robots.
*No items/suit upgrades bar the beams - Metroid loses a lot of soul without these, upgrading your suit throughout the game is one of the best parts of a Metroid game, not having them is dull. It also makes backtracking seem almost pointless. I love backtracking in Metroid, coming back to an old place with a new item and being able to access somewhere completely new is great; reaching a higher area with the space jump or by freezing an enemy with the ice beam, speed boosting through blocks, being able to go through lava with the Varia Suit... however in Hunters it's just opening a door you couldn't open before because you didn't have the right beam.
*Poorly designed areas - there's several rooms in the game that are far too maze-like, very frustrating to navigate and find the door you want to go through.
*Looking down at the platform you're standing on and looking like you're not on it at all. Not only is that poor attention to detail but it can also make platforming hard for all the wrong reasons.
*Finding out how to fight Gorea's second form is far too cryptic. I would never have worked out that I needed to shoot those things in the boss room in a certain order if I hadn't of researched it on the internet. It's a major F.U. ending the game without you actually completing it if you beat Gorea form 1 without shooting the symbols.
*An anti-climatic ending.

Seems like a lot of problems, but I still enjoyed the game. I liked in particular:

*The Hunters are quite cool, they could have used a bit more development and substance, but I thought they were interesting, especially Trace, I wouldn't mind seeing the Kriken play a part in a future game. I enjoyed the battles with them too.
*A lot of people disagree, but I thought the controls worked great, very fluid. Your hands can get tired after long play sessions, but that's to be expected, the only time that really happened to me was when fighting a boss after playing for a while before, even then it wasn't that bad. Other than that I never found them awkward or uncomfortable at all. Maybe it's because I was playing on the bunch better designed 3DS rather than a bulky original DS or a sharp edged DS Lite.
*Good graphics for a DS game, everything looks very nice.
*No constant narrative telling you the story, your left to discover that for yourself like in proper Metroid fashion. You're also not told where to go and what to do, the game trusts you to work that out for yourself like a Metroid game should.
*Has a reasonable challenge.

In general I found it to be a good game, not a great Metroid game, out the Metroids I've completed (all of them bar MP2, MP3 and M:OM) this is my least favourite, but as I game I think it's good.

Here are the changes that should be made for Metroid Prime Hunters 3D:

Save Stations

Bigger environments

NO PISTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (except harmless ones*)

Mocktroids

No pointless timed puzzles and/or escape sequences

New story stuff and dialogue with good voice acting

Revamped Gorea 1 and ending/reward system**

No guardians

New bosses (pillar and eyeball only once, the first ones)

Condensed lore entries

Revamped logbook in general

Metroids (normal only, no quatroids)

Affinity weapon for Samus (Plasma Beam?)

Affinity effect for all beam weapons in single player except the Shock Coil and Imperialist

Affinity effect for Judicator changed to Prime 1 Ice Beam (no longer useless except at point blank range)

NO CHASM DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Will be just a respawn and a few health points down like in Echoes and Corruption)

Classic Prime 1 shielded hexagon-shaped doors (Triangles were cheesy)

Way less MP arenas from SP and more original ones

Show hunters on radar default set to on

Spider Ball effect for Spire (current wall-stick is crap)

On the Oubliette, players retain the Omega Cannon and beam ammo pickups refill ammo by 1.

Permanent star count on license

Octolith Chozo artifact jingle remix at Omega Cannon pickup in SP

Better Gorea death cinematic

Pause menu/revamped gunship interior

Automatic Morph Ball doors like in trilogy

Nameable bots

*You know how in Prime 1 if you go into the maintenance tunnel a message comes up saying the rock slide is Bendezium? In the Piston Cave, with now-harmless pistons, an identical morph ball message could say, "analysis indicates pistons are too puny to hurt you". Just to be funny. :P

**Now Gorea will be invincible until you do the hit-the-colored-targets thing. That way everyone can get the REAL ending. When you beat his second form, if you don't have at least 75% of the items, the cinematic will cut off at his death and the credits will roll, but if you do, you'll see the rest with ZS Samus and the Ambillics as usual. In other words, it'll be the 75% ending. For the 100% ending, when the credits are done and before the "mission accomplished" screen, there will be an Echoes cameo. (Perhaps Samus gets the message from the Federation we see at the beginning of Echoes or something like that.) Getting a certain percentage of the logbook will unlock concept art like in Primes 1 and 2, and once you have achieved 100% of the items and the logbook, the glowing Octolith icon will replace the snail icon on the license.

Hunters 3D as in a remake of Hunters or as in a sequel? I don't think a 6 year old game needs a remake, I'd be open to a sequel though. Hunters is a bit of a diamond in the rough in my opinion, it lacks that little bit extra quality to make it great and it has a few major faults that really let it down. If the developers can build on some of the good foundations Hunters 1 laid and fix the problems it had, then the sequel could be very good.

Also, another Hunters complaint... the multiplayer gets a lot of credit, but online it's unplayable. Alt spammers completely destroyed it. Every match is just your opponent going into alt form and hammering fire, and there's absolutely nothing you can do to combat it apart from doing it yourself.

I mean Hunters as a remake but a sequel taking place between Echoes and Corruption would be good too. I'm for both.

I'd have it between Corruption and Metroid II myself, it'd be an ideal opportunity to explain what that mysterious ship at the end of Corruption was all about.

The only concern I have with a Hunters 2 is that it may be detrimental to the chances of Metroid V coming out. The best chances of Metroid V finally coming this generation is on the 3DS, and if there is a Hunters 2 then it'll have to be on the 3DS. I can't see two Metroid games coming to the 3DS, especially two Metroid games of different styles.
