I'm mostly positive that the lore scans on Elysia don't explain this, and sorry if this topic already exists.
But how did the Metroids come to be in Skytown?
Were they originally brought in by Chozo?
Or was it a federation project, or a space pirate project?
As far as I'm aware the following timeline of Skytown's visitors is mostly correct;
Chozo make Skytown > They then make Elysians > They leave > Federation meet Elysians > Federation installs aurora unit and most leave (most leave is an assumption)> Elysia get's phazon seeded > Federation send Ghor to deal with the situation > Ghor becomes corrupted > Ghor "commands" the space pirates on Skytown
So first off, where would be the best place to suggest the arrival of the space pirates? I think either before or after Ghor becomes corrupted, before because of the leviathan shield, but maybe after because Ghor was their commander
Assuming that the space pirates/dark samus are the ones who create phazon metroids. Did they introduce the metroids into that creature lab holding area? Or did they corrupt ones which may have already been there?
The space pirates may have even built that holding area in that section of Skytown, however, given that the space pirates are responsible for the phazon metroids, how is it that there are federation corpses in the initial entrances?
Either the federation sent a combat force against the space pirates, after the pirates arriving. Or the federation sent a task force to that area BEFORE the pirates even came to Elysia.
Which then could mean the space pirates were not responsible for the phazon metroids, and either the federation OR even the chozo are...?
Or maybe even the Alimbics are responsible... (sorry couldn't help myself)
Back to proving nothing, if the federation investigated that area and the corpses were not dealt with, is it feasible to suggest that the federation initially wanted to investigate the area but with the danger of the metroids killing their initial research team they called it off?
To be honest, with the federations interest in both Metroids AND phazon, i don't think so
It's all a bit confusing really, but I would like to hear other explanations or even be totally proven wrong because of undeniable proof which i haven't seen...

Several months passed while Samus was unconscious. During that time, the Pirates seeded Elysia and took it over. The Metroid holding area was a pod retrofitted with Space Pirate equipment and containing Space Pirate bodies (they were Space Pirates, not Marines)- a Space Pirate facility. Also, Pirates quickly come to meet you as you pilot the Theronian bomb to the seed, suggesting that they are based on the planet. I believe Pirates are at this point the only group possessing Metroids, as the Federation seems to have acquired its first specimen since the original captured 'troid in Super Metroid with the hatchling.

Agree with Redwing. The pirates probably came to Elysia at the same time as the leviathan (to guard it and such), with Ghor being sent to fight them afterward. I think the pirates brought the metroids with them.

Pirates bring Metroids everywhere, don't they? It doesn't really make sense in the Prime games now that I think about it, since for the most part Pirate Troopers were actually more annoying to kill than Metroids. Why waste the time, resources, and caretaker's lives? Just leave Retro's nerfed Metroids out of the equation

I believe I made a thread on this subject, some time ago.

Snap I had a feeling I was wrong about the federation corpses
Oh well...
And also the space pirates probably bring metroids around everywhere because of their fascination with their energy producing powers.
Yeah I know phazon has a greater energy output than a metroid (I think that's true), but then I guess that brings up a new question
Are phazon metroids the ultimate source of energy production?

Only once you have the ice beam... Troopers might cause more damage before you kill them, just because they have weapons. Then again, the specialized beam troopers were really annoying...

Are Phazon Metroids the ultimate source of energy production? Not likely. The Pirates had no end of trouble controlling them. Case in point: corpses corpses everywhere, and not a pirate to beat. Or something. Hey, it rhymes... sort-of? Anyhow. That Space Pirates bring metroids with them everywhere due to their energy producing powers is no new discovery. After all, in Metroid Prime II: Echoes, you can see a holding tank where Tallon Metroids are gently nibbling on a barely-alive victim, producing energy.

You don´t remember Fission Metroids, right? Those from Metroid Prime 1 were difficult to kill...

Not really... just one power bomb could rid you of a whole swarm of the pests.

To save time with quotes I agree with RedWing and most of the other replys - all good points. But also, I thought the metroid pod in Corruption was a funny excuse to keep Metroids in every game (except Hunters). Thank you, Corruption, thank you.

as far as i know chozo invented metroids, perhaps not only in one planet? perhaps the ones in sky town were corrupted by the newly arrived leviathan?
(started by Redwing...or Ridley.Whichever did this one...)

Metroids were an extremely dangerous weapon and the Chozo knew it. I doubt they'd tote them along wherever they went just for kicks.

Your interpretation of the chozo is no fun.
