The title's retarded In Echoes you find many dead luminoth (or is the plural luminoths?) that fought against the 'ing Ing. But, they are naked... How do you expect to win if you fight against DARK beINGs in a polluting DARK atmosphere with no equipment to protect you! I kept thinking about that but then I realised(Beware, it's long)
The chozo made power suits, like Samus' When Samus dies, her suit breaks and leaves her naked (or at least with the clothes she had under that suit) The chozo met the luminoth and they exchanged knowledge and technology, one of those must have been power suit tech There are suit upgrades in Aether, not specifically for Samus, but definitly for power suits.So... The luminoth used power suits in battle! Suits similar to Samus', that break when you're dead, explainING why their corpses had no clothes. Maybe they had arm cannons to fire the dark light and annihilator beams, visors capable of seing things not in this realm and sound, in fact, their suits must have been dark suits, and the ones that where looking for the Sky Temple keys may have worn light suits!
Cool theory, huh

Or Samus' suit, being as advanced as it is, absorbs the Luminoth tech.
Also, you shouldn't assume the Luminoth need "clothes" as we think of them. That's a human concept.
For one, I think their exoskeletons are pretty tough, able to withstand quite a bit of punishment (as the corpses attest to), and I also think that some of the upgrades were more for Luminoth drones than actual Luminoth soldiers.
You might be right about the Luminoth wearing power suits, but the only suit that specifically is given to you by U-MOS is the Light Suit, and that is more a modification brought about by infusing Samus with the Light of Aether than actually being a "suit" in the strict sense.
Also, it's called using the edit button, mah boi.

I had always assumed that the Ing stripped the Luminoth of anything of worth, for what reason, I do not know, as the Ing don't appear to use weapons in the conventional sense. This of course would only apply to those luminoth found in Dark Aether which begs the question: What happend to the rest of the Luminoth?
It's possible they could have been stripped after death, either by their fellow Luminoth in order to recycle armaments or by native wild life in a vain attempt to feed on the corpses, regardless, we don't have a clear idea of what, if any, sort of weapons or armor they used. We know through logs that they had developed Dark and Light based weaponry, as well as a miryad of combat droids and sanctuary crystals, but all the Luminoth models ingame look the same, save for coloration.
At first I had thought U-mos and the Keepers were wearing some sort of armor, but through subsequent playthroughs, paying closer attention to the various models, I found that save for textures they were identicle. We have no idea what their arsenel looks like or how it was used.
Power suit technology isn't exclusive to Samus, the Galactic Federation uses a varient of it and you could even postulate that the Space Pirates incorporate a form of power suit into their units, they also had contact with the Chozo, but to what extent remains unclear, so I'd guess they implemented their armaments uniquely.
Quite frankly I think it just comes down to Retro not having the foresight to make it look like any of the Luminoth were ever armed with anything at all, leaving them all, effectively, naked.
Emperor Ing is also correct. If the Luminoth had access to the Light of Aether during the war, which was the principal source of energy which was disputed during the conflict, they would of had a considerably easier time with the Ing. Is also seems unlikely that the Luminoth would have access to Dark Suit technology, as the only way Samus came about it was by effectively infusing her suit with Amorbis' considerable remnant of dark energy, a feat the Luminoth would seem incappable of, considering the pound the Ing alone gave them.

Several of the luminoth corpses you scan in the Temple Grounds specifically say that their equipment was stolen after death. This could have been done by the ing (who seem to be able to use stolen technology biologically, as seen with the game's various mini bosses) or by the pirates (who are present in every area of MP2 and have an entire lifestyle that revolves around stealing alien technology).
We've seen statues of luminoth wearing armor and funny looking helmets all over the place. I take this to mean that the luminoth use armor - either powered or otherwise - in battle.

I think I recall mention that the Luminoth themselves stripped the equipment off their fallen soldiers as well, both to reuse it and to keep the Ing from gaining access to them via possessing the corpse.

I came into this thread and I actually started to tear up.
Note to OP: dark colors on dark backgrounds are literally painful to read. Yes, I know I can highlight your post, but without being able to read your post, your choice of font color does not give me confidence in your posting abilities. Why go through the trouble to highlight it when your post probably isn't much better than your font color?
Sorry if this is considered flaming, I have nothing against you, I just hate your font choice.
edit: Wow, this came off a lot more assholish than I intended. Sorry about that. (your font color still sucks though.)
I heard Metroid is a girl! Is that true???

Man, I forgot about some of those statues, Sylux.
It's actually been a long time since I played Echoes; I really need to do another playthrough so I can take in and enjoy everything in much closer detail.

I forgot about the Luminoth statues as well, but now that I think about it the armor they wore always seemed more ceremonial than battle ready. Could be wrong. It's also the only real example of any kind of armor that they would have used. I find it funny how with those helmets they go from looking like moths to horned beetles.

I don't think the Luminoth fought a real war anyway. The lore said that some individual Luminoth killed thousands of ing, but when Samus came she may have fought 300 if you count all of the dark enemies (including Ing) during the whole game. Why did the Luminoth lore say that there would be thousands of Ing in the Ing Horde if you don't even fight 1000 (not counting respawned eniemes)?

Well, there's only a fraction of the planet you explored.
Plus, you forget that Ing can possess anything, and the Luminoth probably fought innumerable smaller Ing varieties instead of continually being pounded by Hunter Ing and Warrior Ing.

This is one of the times where I believe more in the story than in the gameplay, because the later has limitations. First, the game engine and the console can't really manage more than a couple of warrior and hunter ings in the same room so you never figth many of them (I have seem 4 or 5 WIngs in four rooms in the entire game, and I have never seen more than 2 HIngs together), it is obviously easier with metroids and inglets because they have less bones to animate. Second, the game is not an ordinary shooter, there is a big focus on exploring the environments and solving puzzles as well as combat. So the rooms were not designed for a war game like gameplay. There are lots of enemies in the game, but never many of them and that happens in every metroid game. Emperor Ing wrote:Well, there's only a fraction of the planet you explored.

This too, they might have fought a lot of Inglets and Nigthbarbs (or whatever the fliying young ings are called) too.

Why would they need armor when they have force fields? Because whenever you shoot U-Mos or whatever his name is, a force field appears around him and blocks the shot. Or maybe only u mos can do that because isnt he like the leader of the remaining luminoth?
