Prime 2 had great atmosphere of dread and despair for a game with no blood or gore, and published by Nintendo at that. I'm not sure I would go as far as to say that it was "creepy" but seeing the GF Soldiers dangling from the ceiling and Luminoth bodies littered everywhere was a nice touch from an atmospheric standpoint.

I gotta say, Prime 2: Echoes is by far my favorite Prime. It is by far one of the most atmospheric metroids (even boring levels like Agon Wastes really did feel like you were stranded on a wasteland, for better or worse), Space Pirates kicked the most ass in the game and were a blast to fight, had the best boss fights ( <3 Quadraxis <3 ), was the most challenging (though I don't think it was as hard as everyone says it was) and Sanctuary Fortress is probably one of the best areas of the entire series. On top of that, as stated above it captured the sense of dread and despair that no metroid games have really captured before. Yeah, it has its share of flaws (LOL Beam Ammo. I didn't realize how ridiculous it was until I played every other Metroid game) but overall still the best imo and very under-appreciated.

The main reason I don't play Prime 2 as much is not from the creepiness, but the Sky Temple Keys -_-; . But I do agree Prime 2 does have it's creepy moments but nothing scary like what was in Prime 3 Vahalla. Seriously who was scared when you open a door in Vahalla and a Federation trooper falls apart in your face. That still scares me to this day.

The ammo was indeed silly but added to the tension in the game as you continued to blast your way through more and more of dark aether - running low on beam ammo (even with the dark ammo trick) could make for a pretty nail-biting playthrough, especially in the early parts of the game.

The game really made Dark Aether a hostile place. I know most people were sick of it, and sometimes it overstayed its welcome (what with ingworms just blocking off places), but it did give a good sense of "Oh shit, I am out of the safe zone now). It's funny when an entire hostile world is considered the "safe zone" next to Dark Aether... Then again, the constantly-decreasing health might have something to do with that.

And of course, the areas themselves, though perhaps not as iconic as Prime (Sanctuary Fortress is indeed the standout level, though), are still vibrant and diverse in their own rights, and it was cool to see even more diverse locales from the Retro art team (swamp, underwater sewer systems, techno-city, desert; though that last one might be a retread of the dusty Chozo Ruins). Also, while the Luminoth are more or less a poor-man's Chozo, their tech, civilizationi, and architecture were at least distinct and cool-looking in their own right. Seeing their corpses everywhere added to the sense of danger in Echoes, along with the repeated scans telling of the constant defeat of the Luminoth despite their bravery in the face of overwhelming odds.

4 words: ALL of Dark Aether. Oh, and while I'm at it, I might as well mention my first encouter with Dark Troopers. That music and those animations. >_> o_O O_O *shudders*
Opinions are opinions, not facts. Though, everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course. Even Metroids and Ridley, the unkillable beast.

WOW! So it's not just me then! LOL I was pretty creeped out by Dark Aether. That whole atmosphere. I think they did a fantastic job on that game so far minus a few ridiculous bosses. I'm still on my first playthrough. I LOVED the remix of Red Brinstar in the hydrodynamo station! To be honest, I had no idea at first that the floating blue dust was Dark Samus...lol I thought it was just some weird light creature and I started shooting at it... XD oh man, when she appeared and made that grotesque laugh... *shudders* lol

I'll tell you what REALLY creeped me out. Those freaking Chozo ghosts in Prime. O_O It legitimately made my heart race when out of nowhere the room darkened and I heard that shrieking and those creepy clouds floated out of the ground... o_O

Another thing that I found creepy at first was NES Tourian. It was my very first playthru of ANY Metroid game and aside from the Metroids initially putting the fear of God in me, just that whole atmosphere and the creepy 8 bit music and those rinkas just kinda floating around...and of course once I got to Mother Brain for the first time and I heard more creepy music and those creepy sounds that I think come from the turrets, then you see that grotesque looking monster in her pickle jar...it had that perfect creepy science lab feel to it. I LOVE IT!!!! XD

The Sky temple keys is why I won't play Echoes ever again. Thank God I beat it on all difficulties and got 100% before I quit that game. Though, I may LP it after I buy a capture card.
