PAL version of GC Metroid Prime in 480p

Postby Paar » 02.22.12 5:22am

Hi. I just love to play Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in 480p (NTSC version for Gamecube). Metroid Prime is a different story though. As you already know, there are some differences between PAL and NTSC version of the game and you may say that PAL version is ultimately better. But it sucks in one aspect - it doesn't support progressive scan.
My question is - is there any way to play PAL version of Metroid Prime 1 in 480p? I'm talking about Gamecube version of course, Wii version (MPT) is already in 480p. But I like GC version better: control scheme, intro song... Not missing some graphical effects... I know that Japanese version is very similar to PAL version, but it's in... well... Japanese. Maybe there is some English patch? If know about something, I would like to hear about it. Thank you.

The only way I can think of might be to use Gecko OS to run an imported copy of Prime on your Wii.
I'm unsure how well it will work, since I've never used it to run an imported game before. :(

Well that's the problem. I don't want to play a Wii version. Maybe if I could replace text files from JPN version of the game with the ones from PAL version? I'm not sure how it would work.
By the way, I own the game. I don't want to play pirated ISO. Just for information.

I'm not suggesting you play a Wii version, nor am I suggesting you use an ISO.
What I AM suggesting, is that you use an original Metroid Prime Gamecube disk in a homebrew enabled Wii to get around the region locking.

The main challenge here is obtaining an NTSC version of the game in your area. A five year old can run homebrew on his Wii.

Sorry, I didn't mean that you are suggesting that I should use an ISO. I just mentioned it so nobody would accuse me from piracy.
I could buy US version of the game (I have US version of Prime 2), but there are these changes that make PAL version superior, like new animations or reworked Ridley fight. Sure, Player's Choice edition obtained several updates, but is still missing a lot of features. That's why I want to stuck with PAL version or JAP version, as they are both almost identical (some minor differences here and there). But only JAP version of those two has progressive mode (but then again, it's in Japenese).

Doesn't the NTSC version have more in-depth and thought out lore scans, which may, in a way, make it better than the PAL version?
Being an American, I've never played the PAL version.

If you want both progressive scan and English scans/options screen, you'll need the NTSC version.

You're right. But it still sucks... Well, you can't have anything. Life is cruel. Thanks for info, maybe I'll just try the US version so I can read the original lore.
