You nailed it. Pussification indeed.

I agree. The galaxy needs a new threat. If the Pirates are involved with it, fine. But we need something new. :geemer:

What if Metroids are still involved but in a much smaller role? Like how in the Primes, they were a side enemy while Phazon was the real threat.

Also, I remember with the Primes, specifically Hunters, everyone was saying "there's barely any Metroids, it shouldn't even be a Metroid game", etc. Now everyone is saying Metroids shouldn't be a big part anymore. What gives?

I actually felt that Metroids were shoehorned in to Prime 2 and Corruption - which barely had anything to do with Metroids (in Prime 1 it at least made sense to see them around). The games probably would have not missed having the titular monsters in them.

Though they need a better reason next game than ON NOES NOT ANOTHER SECRET GFED CLONGING LABS.

I agree, but back then everyone was saying they needed a more prominent role, and then now theres this "no more Metroids" consensus.

I don't get it.

They just had enough of them.

Like in Other M, the metroids were ONCE AGAIN used as a weapon. It's getting tiresome.

Galactic Federation - "Samus, there's been another report of Metroids fucking shit up; we need you to go mop up the mess."

Samus -" Dammit. Can't you guys just stop trying to clone the little bastards once and for all?"

Galactic Federation - "Honestly, we didn't make these. Neither did the now-disbanded Space Pirates. We don't know where the fuck they came from."

Chozo dude - "Hey y'all, remember when we told you that we made the Metroids from scratch? Well, we lied. We actually found them in an alternate dimension on our way to Zebes. It's the damnedest thing, really, because it's the same dimension that Phantoon came from. You remember him, he crashed our old ship. Well, anyway, here's a way to get to that dimension so you can go all SR388 on them."

Samus - "This is the part that I always dread..."

I just think it's funny, how in the short span of a year or so, the general consensus on Metroids flipped.

I don't mind having them as base enemies, but having an entire plot revolving around tampered with Metroids and such is aggravating. At the same time I don't want them completely gone.

In Metroid Prime 2 and Corruption, they sorta missed the opportunity to make more interesting Metroid variations. After all, Metroids have this genetic propensity to end up becoming different, often more fearsome creatures in different environments somehow. Metroid Prime brought us the Hunter Metroids, Fission Metroids and of course Metroid Prime. Looking back at it, I'm beginning to think that Echoes could have brought us more than just the Tallon, baby and Dark Tallon Metroids. Space Pirates seem to love to mess with their genetics so why haven't they turned themselves into Metroid hybrids yet? Done right it could enhance the charm of the world.

Well, should the fugitive Samus route be taken, it could go like Metroid 2 in the where you have to search for Metroids; live or DNA samples, and destroy them and you have a counter for how many remain, at least in the area. Have there be different worlds where new variations of Metroids are introduced and give these worlds interesting traits like unique chemistries or something. Oh and also be sure to destroy records of research since the feds may have already decoded their genetic codes.

Since this mission may be more delicate, it might be in Samus' best interest to do a little more sneaking which means that she might want to limit her firepower some. With the Wave Beam activated, any stray shot could trigger an alarm which might get the full fury of the Galactic Federation breathing down Samus' throat if she gets careless. Power Bombs are sure far from subtle. Things like that. Once Samus destroys everything Metroid about the place, most personnel would leave the place behind since any research done there is finished and the feds would better opt to go guard other places but have some personnel patrol the area just in case she shows up there again for some Metroidvanian reason. That's just one example. Other areas would follow other rules.

Shooting off from that, wouldn't it make more sense to destroy the entire facility? Wipe it free entirely? No evidence.

But, with stealth, they could make it so that if anyone is alerted, they start uploading information to an off planet facility.

Going back to Metroid being boring, it's again in the fact that there's a secret sectors breeding metroids, and then Fusion does it again, although years ago.

I have to say this is another screw-up from Other M: making players lose interest towards metroids.

It's true. They were barely in it, for how much they were talked about.

They could be made interesting again, with the right mutations, and as long as they're treated right this time.

Say, guys... All of this speculation is nice for uncovering some interesting possibilities and all but how many of you are confident that the writer will give us anything interesting at this point? I'm not very optimistic.

Not optimistic at all. Hoping they keep Metroid on hiatus until a talented writer comes along.

Sorry to the rest of you who want something ASAP. I'm for quality over quantity.

I don't think Metroid's going away, but it's definitely going to be a while before anything new comes out. Even Nintendo staff wants to see a new Metroid game.

I was thinking maybe there should be an ulterior motive behind breeding the Metroids. Why not make it something like the invasion of an alien planet, gene-spliced super soldiers, or maybe even preparation for a new threat to galactic sanctity. I think the metroids should simply be a stepping stone to an even bigger problem, kind of like what they did with the Prime series with phazon and all. Metroids were never the primary concern in the Prime series. I think it should be the same thing in future Metroid games.
