Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesHonestly, my over all favorite is the glitches and holes in Super Metroid, it was supposed to be linear, but the glitches and errors in design actually made it 10x more fun, do you agree? (I can't imagine a linear Super Metroid)

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesi definately agree there was so much stuff that other metroid games couldnt compete with. expecially the wall jump.

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesNintendo should make a completely new physics system for the next game that allows the use of more "glitches" to aid in speedruns. Of course they should probably be different than the ones they had previously, or else people like us (meaning everyone on these forums) would know exactly what to expect.
I can't possibly imagine a linear Super Metroid in the same sense fusion and other m were, so maybe nintendo should stop trying so hard to tell a story and just let the story tell itself... "Writing is easy. You just stare at a blank page until your forehead starts to bleed." - Douglas Adams

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesFavorite moment: Today, I did the Space/Time Reset Glitch. I felt like such a badass, but was pissed to find all my normal missles gone. I also noticed that super missles dont really have an effect on Ridley in the space station, do they? Also, if you do the glitch and you have absolutely everything, are any items you find afterwards considered sequence breaking?

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesI giggled like a little girl when I sequence broke to get the Power Bombs early, then stupidly walked into a nearby room filled with giant Sidehoppers which beat me to death really fast because I lacked an armorsuit capable of withstanding their high damage.

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bosses
I don't get why missiles reset, but nothing else doesn't. Also that Ridley fight in the Space Station is based on hits, so all weapons do the same "damage". Click here to sign the petition to unban Zknight7126 from M2K2

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bossesMoments:
1. Getting revenge on Mother Brain with the hyper beam 2. The Torizo waking up. That scared the hell out of me the first time I played. 3. What are supposed to be statues turning to watch you when you go up the elevator after getting the morph ball, then finding the abndoned areas you were just in covered with enemies. 4. Shinesparking up the shaft after beating mother brain 5. Getting the varia suit (it is still one of my favorite item-obtaining animations) 6. Getting jumped by crocomire's skeleton Items 1. Charge beam, simply because of all the special moves it allows 2. Super Missile, because it is cool to see its smoking trail and then causing the whole room to shake 3. Wave beam, since being able to shoot through walls opens up a lot of areas and combat techniques Bosses 1. Dragoon, because of the grapple beam trick 2. Golden torizo, because it has such a wide variety of moves and attacks 3. Crocomire, since the battle is very different and because of the ending to the battle Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

Re: favorite super metroid moments, items, and bosses
Missiles reset because the game grants Samus a handful of missiles (Maybe one tank) for the Mother Brain sequence during her flashback. Naturally, to prevent you from having missiles from the off, they're removed when you start the game. You'll also notice that, on normal playthroughs, she's always wearing her stock Power Suit rather than the Varia she should technically have in Metroid 2 (Which we all know introduced the Shoulders O' Doom on the sprite). The Samus in the black-and-white flashback is the playable Samus, with whatever equipment she has when she starts the game: Power Suit, Power Beam, jack all else, and Missiles that get removed once the game begins. Now Nintendo didn't anticipate the space/time reset glitch. I don't blame them. If I had been a programmer on Super Metroid at the time and my future self emerged from a time portal in the wall and warned me about the glitch, I wouldn't have believed him then. Basically, if you reset and watch the intro carefully, you'll notice that Samus is equipped exactly how you were equipped when you reset. This is even more obvious if you have the High-Jump/Screw Attack/Space Jump and Samus plunges into the harmless acid pit during the Mother Brain segment. The intro simply doesn't account for Samus having anything more than her default load-out and the temporary missiles that will be removed once the game gets going. Again, if I was the theoretical programmer and I was paying attention to my future self and I was a complete dick (Only one of those three apply to my current self), I would have simply recoded the intro to set Samus to her default state every time she travels down the Ceres elevator. tl;dr version: The intro gives Samus some missiles then resets the counter to zero. That's why you don't get to keep your missiles. |
