Metroid 2:Return of SamusI wanted to know what Metroid 2:Return of Samus was like before I buy it.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusBlack and white.
Somewhat cheesey sound effects. The whole map is one giant black and grey maze. Difficulty level that's off the scale. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DH6e8Q94pk I have never watched this video before, and I doubt it will, so this video does NOT express my views. ![]() |

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusBefore I say this I must tell you, I'M NOT TROLLING. I love metroid 2, it is one of my favorite games in general. It has great graphics for its time, a great main theme, introduced the space jump, and plasma and spazer beams, also the spiderball. Also, of metroid 2 never happened, then there would be no last metroid for super metroid. Even though In itself the game doesn't have much of a plot, without it there would be no fusion or super metroid

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusI thought you could only troll if you were purposely saying something to get someone mad.
I guess kids these days don't even know the meaning of the internet terms they bandy about. I myself really loved Metroid II: Return of Samus, for its fun mechanics (spider ball heck yes), spooky, gigantic world to explore (thought it IS a black-and-white maze), and the challenging, tense Metroid encounters that punctuate the game. Plus, the weapons you find are fun and the music, when it wants to be, is very catchy. At the same time, modern gamers will find it pretty unforgiving, especially when compared to Super Metroid. The lack of map makes the labyrinthine corridors of SR-388 overly formidable (even I played the game with a map, because there are too many fake walls in the middle of nowhere that hide crucial items or metroids). I'd say download a ROM (not gunna tell you where to get one), try it out for yourself, and see if it's worth your while.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusTroll cam have multiple meanings. Trolling is also. Saying stuff that doesn't seem to agree with the norm to prank someone. As of late, when I say my opinions on some stuff that is say 90% of people hate, but I lobe have said I was trolling (on a different forum) so I was pre empting the calls of troll

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusNext time don't even use the word because it brings down the level of discourse to about the level of middle school. You don't need to preface your remarks with "I'm not even trolling" because dammit it just makes everything seem like it's a damned board of nothing but eighth graders. Say what you fucking mean and back it up with your own arguments. If you do that no one ever uses that damn stupid word. Damn damn damn.
Anyhoo, as I was saying. If you prefer the Prime game Metroid games, you probably will find MII very archaic and not very enjoyable. Heck, if you are totally used to Super Metroid and post-Super classic Metroids, you will find it hard to go back to the early entries (many people dislike Metroid for similar reasons - the rooms all look the same, no map, too hard, etc. At least MII has save points and energy refills). People also say its more linear, but that honestly is not a problem when the world itself is so open-ended, allowing you to tackle Metroids in any order you want in any given area, with lots of secrets to explore. An updated MII, if they kept the core gameplay intact, would be a sight for sore eyes.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of Samus
Oh god yes. I've been wanting that since Zero Mission. |

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusYou guys haven't heard of am2r have you? It's a remake of mII in zero mission style. It's a fangame, but its almost done and hasn't died over the 5 or so years it has been worked on

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusI don't play roms, so it's not really an option for me.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusMetroid 2 is kind of a must if you're a fan of the series. The physics and maplessness take some getting used to, but it's still a great game. I wouldn't play it in black and white, though. There's really no point since it's readily available in color.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusAm2r isn't a romhack, its a game maker game. You don't need roms or an emulator, its a standalone exe

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusHaha, I guess I'll rephrase. I don't play games on the computer. So unless it's actually available on a console I have, I'm only interested in watching someone else's LPs, not playing it myself. Personal preference.
M2 is a great game if you enjoy the classics. I don't think I could really add anything that anyone else hasn't already said. I think it's really fun; I'd say it was one of my top three favorites of the series behind Super and MZM. |

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusThe lack of a map and the requirement that the player explore through each set of ruins really followed up on the original's overall feeling. My brother and I bought the game when it was a new release back in '92 and I will still play it on the original Gameboy from time to time. I must agree that the clunkiness is something that will take time to get used to.

Re: Metroid 2:Return of SamusI just recently downloaded it from the virtual console on the Nintendo 3ds. From what I played so far (just got the spiderball a little while ago), it's a lot of fun. btw, I know of at least one boss that's not a metroid: the arachnus. Does anyone know if there are any other bosses that are not some form of metroid?
Opinions are opinions, not facts. Though, everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course. Even Metroids and Ridley, the unkillable beast.
Viva Les Alpha et Omega Metroids. Kraid should be brought back, he needs some good 'ol Metroid love. |
