Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)This is a novelization of Corruption. It includes things that weren't in the actual game, however.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)Wunterwaffen has in all three of his "novelizations" quoted almost every scan in the game verbatum. He has been critized for bad writing.
Wunterwaffen, stop doing this. You are not making any friends by asking for people to read your stories and then ignoring the criticism they give you. |

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)Okay guys, here's the third chapter, finally. Please review. Enjoy!
Chapter 3 From the Cliffside Airdock, Samus went to the downed Theseus and froze the fuel gel spouts to get across the chasm. In a large place with a severed golem arm with an Energy Tank, the AU commed in. “Samus,” she said, “we have uncovered new information regarding your condition. It appears that once activated, the unique Phazon inside your body overreacts after several seconds. We did not foresee this problem when we gave you the PED, and unknowingly, we placed you in grave danger. We are sorry.” “That’s ok,” said Samus. “Please be aware that it will not be possible to kill Dark Samus without the PED. You must be careful in using it.” “I will,” Samus promised. In the nearby GF outpost, Samus opened the landing bay doors and lowered the scaffolding. Calling her ship in with the Command Visor, she waited until it had landed, then equipped the ship with the Gunship Missile Launcher. This fired extremely powerful baradium warheads that could easily destroy the generators with their maldium armor. Back at Fiery, Samus went straight to the Temple of Bryyo and found that the Space Pirates were in the middle of building a huge turret to protect the generator. Samus deactivated the two jamming beacons, then switched to the Command Visor Locking onto the turret, Samus looked at the Pirates charging toward her and grinned. “Don’t you guys ever get tired of losing?” she said. A low whine was heard overhead. The pirates looked up just in time to see five huge glowing missiles descend upon the temple. BLLLAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The turret’s construction would never be finished! The concussion killed the areotroopers and ground troopers nearby, leaving Samus free to use the elevator platform. At the generator, Samus ordered her ship to fire. Another deadly salvo rained down, blowing the generator to pieces. The shield around the leviathan flickered for a moment, then came back on. One generator down, one to go. Samus went back to her ship and set course for the Thorn Jungle. As it’s name implied, there were a lot of thorns there. Almost as many as Space Pirates. In the ruined courtyard, they had set up a large metal gate, and a jammer to boot. Samus swiftly deactivated the annoying device, then ordered another bombing rum. The magnificent gunship flew by and rained missiles in the courtyard. Samus suffered only the loss of a few points of energy. Not so with the gate. It was blown into pieces and the Pirates near it were splattered against the walls. Samus went thru the ruined gate and saw a Berserker Knight. Undaunted, she used the monster’s purple orbs to get rid of it’s armor, then went into Hypermode and used the Phazon Beam to annihilate him. At the generator, Samus ordered a Missile strike, but the Pirates had long since built not one, but two AA turrets. These chased the ship away, and 242 said, “Samus, there are two AA turrets protecting the generator. Your ship will not be able to get a clear shot while those guns are active.” Although it would’ve been easy enough to take out both guns and the generator by manually flying her ship, Samus preferred a challenge. Walking thru the jungle to the first turret, Samus saw that the hub underneath it could be pulled out, causing the fuel gel canisters on the turret to be exposed. Samus pulled it out and destroyed all three pairs of canisters, blowing the AA turret to hell and gone. Samus them moved on to the other turret. In the hallway leading to it, however, she saw a shocking sight and blanched. “Are those… ZEBETITES?!!!!!!!!!!!” she said out loud to herself. They were definitely Zebetites, and they had some kind of purpose. Samus destroyed all the Zebetites she saw and moved on. Soon she arrived at the second turret. But the Pirates had taken steps to ensure she couldn’t destroy this one. Three levers had to be pulled to release the fuel gel canisters. Two areotroopers were there and clearly intended to pull them back if she did so. Samus brooked no arguments. Entering Hypermode, she vaped the pirates with the Phazon Beam, then pulled all three levers back. By the time two more pirates flew in, it was too late. The turret exploded, and Samus finished them off. “Good riddance,” she muttered. Samus blew up the generator with her ship. The shield vanished and the Seed was now exposed. Samus set a course for the Leviathan and landed inside. Now to destroy the Seed. In the seed chamber, Samus saw a huge statue, ten times bigger than any other golem she had seen. As the big lug came to life, her Scan Visor confirmed that it was the launching golem of the Mogenar line: Mogenar. Three red orbs lay in three slots, two on Mogenar’s shoulders, and one on his groin. Samus fired at the lowest orb while Mogenar pounded the ground with shockwaves. Then Mogenar suddenly rotated the orbs to different slots. Targeting that same orb, now on the golem’s right shoulder, Samus destroyed it. The empty slot glowed white, and Samus went into hypermode and destroyed the slot, rendering it useless and inflicting a good deal of pain. Mogenar decided he was going to trample Samus down, so he generated growths on his feet and stomped. Samus rolled into Morph Ball form and dropped bombs at his feet to destroy them. Transforming, Samus blasted another red orb until it blew up, then destroyed the slot with Hypermode. Repeating the process with the final orb and slot, Samus saw another one on his back. As Mogenar charged, Samus dashed behind him and destroyed the orb. When the enraged monster charged again, she did the same thing to the slot in Hypermode, coming out of it as her enemy turned to face her. Mogenar roared deafeningly, raising his head in agony. A second later, he exploded in a blinding blue flash. Samus staggered back as the Phazon energy swept through her. Deep inside her body, the Phazon seed grew in size. A wave of nausea engulfed Samus, and she took off her helmet and vomited pure liquid Vertigo Phazon. Standing up, Samus put her helmet back on and grabbed the Phazon Ball. With this, she could emit tendrils of Phazon lightning from the Morph Ball while in Hypermode. After she grabbed the upgrade, Samus saw weird little flowers sprouting up from the ground. Guessing their purpose, Samus transformed and destroyed them with her new Phazon Ball. A huge membrane in the ceiling opened, and a bizarre round object emerged from it. Samus knew at once that it was the seed. Gathering up all of the energy inside of her, Samus rose into the air and with a grunt of exertion heaved it right onto the seed. She then backed up as the seed exploded in a blinding flash of light. Samus flew out of the dead Leviathan and up into orbit around Bryyo. AU 242 commed in. “Bryyo is now freed from further Phazon corruption. Thank you, Samus.” “It was the least I could do,” the exhausted bounty hunter replied. “Your next objective will be Elysia,” said the AU. “Though Ghor is stationed there, the Phazon contamination is still spreading. The impact point is deep within the clouds of this planet. You will not be able to reach it’s location. Instead, you can land in a facility high above the surface, where Aurora Unit 217 resides. Unit 217 has been infected by the virus and is currently offline. I have uploaded the vaccine to your suit. Once unit 217 has been restored, he should help is find a way to destroy the Leviathan.” Samus nodded. “We are concerned about Ghor ever since he lost contact with us. We hope he is safe…” Samus slept long and deeply that night. The next day, she set course for Elysia. |

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, but in the Thorn Jungle there are some objects that look almost exactly like Zebetites. Here's a picture of these objects:
Now look at the picture of a Zebetite. Doesn't take much imagination now, does it? ![]() |

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)
I wouldn't say they look "almost exactly like Zebetites", but they are kinda similar... |
|
Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)And I had hoped you had forgotten about doing this story.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)No, I just procrastinated, and for that I apologize.
Now read the chapter, lazarius. ![]() |

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)If I remember correctly, the fight with Mogenar is at least several paragraphs.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)He's not asking a question. Clearly he's just quoting the story. Although some of the exclamation marks seem to be a little saggy and are leaning over. Probably due to the extreme heat in Fiery.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)BLLLAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the part where you reduced the entire Mogenar fight to a single paragraph. A fight scene should not just be 'She did this, then did it again'. People want to read the fight, the different attacks and defenses both combatants used. Not just 'Transforming, Samus blasted another red orb until it blew up, then destroyed the slot with Hypermode. Repeating the process with the final orb and slot, Samus saw another one on his back. As Mogenar charged, Samus dashed behind him and destroyed the orb. When the enraged monster charged again, she did the same thing to the slot in Hypermode, coming out of it as her enemy turned to face her.' 'repeating the process' 'blasted another' 'did the same thing' That's not a fight scene, that's a walkthrough.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)
The artist who did them based them off of the Zebetites. |
|
Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)See and it totally makes sense in the context of the story as well. Samus' reaction is justified wholly.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)Indeed. I myself blanched when I noticed the zebetites.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)Interesting. I think perhaps that's the problem with the retelling generally: you haven't really escaped your own personal experience playing the game. It's told from your point of view as a player, with your own reactions imposed on Samus.

Re: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (the novel)I agree with Mental.
That is just gameplay wise. Not necessarily how Samus would see it. |
