So I've been thinking of designing a new Metroid world for some time now, it would try to explore new areas that a Metroid game hasn't gone down before, or at least not fully. I came to a decision and going for the civillian cities of Space Pirate Home World, rather than just the military foundations that Prime 3 ventured into, and design the confliction between military life/ buildings that intertwine with civillian settlements. The idea is very basic right now, maybe I could create some sort of Space Pirate rebellion against a corrupt governement. However, a 'government is actually evil' plot has got to be one of the oldest ones in the book.
My main focus will be trying to achieve Metroids atmospheric nature and sense of exploration into the Space Pirate cities, all through traditional 2D pen and ink drawings, possibly evolve into a manga but for now it's going to keep as plain simple concept images. Although the city is one of the main areas, I would like to dabble into the planets natural environments: woodlands, caves, lost ruins, oceans and highlands etc (although that could turn into a general Metroid scene that everyone knows already, straying away from my main focus).
I imagine the cities, or at least the main one that I will design, to be a futuristic shanty town. Streets are lonely, architecture looks beaten, smoke from exhaust chimneys glisten the skies and plenty of alleys/ routes to take.
I will be getting some images up soon, but for now here are some basic, I emphasise basic, drawings that I've done
