MDb Merch

Postby Infinity's End » 03.03.11 10:04am

Hey guys,
To help with server costs and the like, there has been some discussion about adding either a donations tab or possibly working out some kind of merch for the MDb. This thread basically asks: what would you pay for?

So far, the ideas are:
  • T-shirts
  • Stickers
  • Buttons
  • Cell Phone Charms?

Feel free to comment and discuss.

Mass producing those Metroid hats that some people on the forums have and selling them for cheap would be a really hot seller, considering that a LOT of people on the forums (including myself) are too lazy or busy to make one ourselfs. I think you should do that.

At least from the perspective of the Space Pirates.

^ Metroid hats are a really good idea. [METROID]

I'm just not sure if it would help sell the sites brand, label etc.
If that's one of the reasons they wanted to sell for the site, I'm not sure.

I think shirts would be quite effective but it depends on the design, and if you plan on selling both male and female tees.
Shirts can be confusing though, I hope you find a t-shirt making company that could give you a nice deal.

The second and probably more favorable option (for me anyway) is selling baseball hats with the MDb logo.
Both genders wear them so you have less product to buy and you'll save money. Hats are also easily visible and might draw more attention.

Sorry if I keep blabbing on, I took a marketing class and I just want you think critically of how you achieve this.
I'm sure you'll do fine.

I've personally been interested in seeing classic Metroid merch reproduced. That S-logo hat, for instance, was a huge hit and there are many people who would want one. We can put the MDb logo on the sleeve so people can tell these are reproductions.

I'm not sure where we'll end up producing these, but I've seen shirts produced through Cafe Press. Split Reason seems to have replaced them in terms of the go-to place for videogame shirts. They've got more than Hot Topic, but I don't know what they charge.
The sleep of Reason produces monsters.

I might buy a Metroid faceplate for my Xbox 360... ironically.

Being more realistic with the swag I'd like; how about Metroid posters (I'm sick of rasterbating.), or morph balls which dangle from your car's rear view mirror?
When somebody tells me he doesn't believe in violence, I punch him in the face to inform him of its existence.

I'd love to cuddle one up and tuck it in bed.
