Where? Even the Vita had to invent a weird touchpad to compensate the impossibility of four shoulder buttons on a portable.

Nintendo managed to make analogue sticks, touch screens, motion controls and such for their devices, don't think 2 extra buttons is beyond the realms of possibility for their R&D department.

It wouldn't be much of a waste if the battery life sucks and the 3DS is to small for your hands. I mean, it is just 30 more dollars.
Take this, Ridley! Wait... Did I forget the plasma beam?

Why I dislike the concept of a 3DSXL:

1. They still didn't put in a second analog stick. If they had, developers might actually take advantage of it and then we would see more dual analog games. I mean, look at how few games take advantage of Wii Motion Plus. If a feature is built in, and not a peripheral, developers will be more likely to take advantage of that feature.

2. I thought the 3DS was supposed to be portable? Take it on the go, etc... That will NOT fit in my pocket.

3. They didn't up the resolution. Games will be scaled to the screen. Have you ever copy/pasted a jpg into Paint and then expanded it? Looks like crap. IM NOT SAYING GAMES WILL NOW LOOK LIKE CRAP. Just that we will probably notice jaggies and poor textures.

4. Everyone who said Nintendo would just release a new model a year later was right. And that really aggravates me.

On the other hand, I do like that hands won't cramp up as much, and the system itself is pretty. But I will definitely be sticking with my original 3DS.

Developers still wouldnt because a very large majority of the people wouldnt have the joystick. The Wiimotion plus was eventually built into every wiimote sold yet developers still didnt do jackshit with it. Select few might take advantage of it (IE, capcom), but theyre going to do it regardless if its built into a shitty XL version anyways.

Im not surpised in the slightest that the system doesnt have a second joystick.

Quoted for emphasis. And people wonder why I never buy Nintendo handhelds on launch day. They'll just release a newer model later. >_<X

Sorry, but I'll pass.

Nintendo, take more time to develop your handhelds properly instead of pooping out a new version every year.

You guys act as if it took more than ten minutes for someone to decide what the 3DSXL would be like.

Find yourself one of the old style Classic Controllers for the Wii and try to use all four shoulder buttons. That will demonstrate in less than ten seconds why having four shoulder buttons on the same level is a very bad idea.

Nintendo executive #1: "You know, many people aren't buying 3DS's because they know for a fact we'll just release a new one sooner or later."

Executive #2: "But we don't have any major improvements to add to it right now." (He says as he plays Kid Icarus with the second analogue attachment.)

Executive #1: *sees an old, abandoned DSXL sitting on a co-worker's desk* "By Jove, I think I've got it!"

*A month of mass producing later*

"Look everyone, it's the 3DS upgrade you've been waiting for!"

Result: Those who bought the 3DS after the price drop dislike that there's a potentially better 3DS out there just a year later, and those who didn't aren't that impressed with the change and are still waiting for a 3DSi, 3DS lite, or at least 3DS-double-analogue.

The thing is it's not necessarily an improvement over the 3DS, it's just a different option. Regular 3DSs will continue to sell well because some people want their portables to be portable. The 3DS XL will sell because some people don't play on-the-go too often and want huge screens. It's just an option. If you have a 3DS and are happy with it, you certainly shouldn't become less happy with it because of the announcement of the 3DS XL. People are making way too much out of this.

Better than bending over and taking it. I stopped buying Activision published titles in 2009 because of their treatment of their customers, sure it's not made any difference to the way they act but least they're not getting my money. I even made a protest custom map for ET:QW after they shut down the community forums for that game with no warning.

Nintendo are a long way off Lackovision's level of idiocy but they've been on a slippery slope of late and I don't have the time and money to haphazardly invest into new hardware without being totally satisfied.

Nintendo is nowhere near Crapcom, EA, and Activision in stupidity but I too been noticing the slippery slope.

Except it improves on everything besides the portable aspect, and really, how many people play their portables outside of their couches?

Though the fact that they absolutely refused to put in a second analog stick, despite the embarrassing add-on, makes me laugh. Hard. Seriously Nintendo, what's wrong with you?

People are making way too much out of this.

No, they're not. Not only is this kind of a slap to the face to those who bought the original 3DS, but this may very well start Nintendo once again making a million versions of its handhelds in order to milk its fanbase instead of properly taking their time to make a handheld where they won't have to update it every year. A new version of the 3DS only a year after its release? Yeah, that's dangerously in 'milking' territory. And who's to say that there won't better versions in the future, making you're previous version obsolete? 3DSi? 3DS Lite? I can only pray that this is the last version they'll release.

Is Shinobi 3DS any good? What about Ace Combat? They're both kinda cheap right now.

Also is Resident Evil worth 35? I kinda want it now because I'm going on a long trip but I was waiting for the price to drop a little more.
