Xbox TV announced. No wait

Postby Naner » 05.21.13 1:17pm

So the new Xbox was just revealed. From what they've showed, it's more of a set-top box than a video game console :/ It's called Xbox One and looks like a VHS player :D

Yay, more Forza, Madden and Call of Duty!

Funniest anecdote I heard regarding the reveal is that MS's stock dropped while Sony's rose due to it.

Man, what do I care? I'm a PC gamer. Master race.

I couldnt be less excited for this piece of crap. This is coming from someone who owns 46 360 titles and still has more on their backlog.

Not backwards compatible.

REQUIRES KINECT CONNECTION TO RUN AT ALL.

You have to pay a fee to play used or borrowed games.

Yeah, not impressed. May be holding off until there are enough exclusives. May be going to Sony for most of my gaming.

The big reveal today only served to confirm my horrible expectations for the system. That's not a pleasant feeling. I hate it when I'm right about this sort of thing. E3 may well improve things a bit but I'm already sworn off both systems until a price drop, at least. No way in hell am I paying a premium for something that forces me to ditch ~8 years of my gaming catalog. Thank the maker I have my PC, and in time when there's something worth playing on it, a Wii U.

I am pretty much on the PS4 boat.... PC gamer here just want a console for those certain games that are better to play on and excusives. Sony and Nintendo have me by the neck when it comes to good games you can only get via them. Xbox..... after Halo (liked 4 a lot).... i don't see ANYTHING to make me come over.

Also biggest difference between Sony's and Microsoft's reveals is one is focusing on using new tech to do the NEW way of things while the other is using new tech to do the old way.

Sony is focused on using the Internet and the new Internet video streaming culture to power their ship and to feed content to their gamers via what the gamers DO! Microsoft is about the old way of control and feeding people what some algorithm says they should view.(its good but I don't like that tactic) or what is popular or should be the next thing by media leaders.... but the kicker this not even about GAMES>S>S>>S>LFKTHKEP *cough* sorry just got mad there. ITS ABOUT FUCKING TV. My family dump TV a long time ago. Trust me we are Sci-Fi junkies, and love show likes Psyche, Blue Colar, and the bunch. We just converted watching shows online just about when streaming just was almost taking off. Instead of cable or the horrible over the air stuff. The internet IS the new cable. Its BEEN that way for 5 years now in many ways. I am not going to buy a system that goes BACKWARDS and not even focusing on the right ways to use the new tech. Sony gets that times have changed and They have my preorder once I have the full info sheet and it checks out.

For the most part, agree with you. Looking forward to the PS4, really can't wait to see what they show off at E3 in terms of exclusives.

Same can be said for the XBOX One. I want to see the games, because at the end of the day that's what matters. I don't see the logic in not talking about the games.

I mean, they showed off games, yeah. But they're mostly games that are multi platform.

So. Way to go Microsoft.

Derp.... and most of those that I care about. (Watch Dogs, COD, BF, Assaisn Creed,...) going to get on PC. I already will play it better and more steady than they will on release on the new systems. I saw no Halo... and that will might be a E3 but
I am feeling they have no ammo or only enough to fire a volly at E3 but Nintendo.. man they have the PIPE wide OPEN and stuff in the black room too. Sony too. Microsoft has enough bad will that this show they put on just was enough for many people to say there done and going PC or Sony. I mean the negative list right now is just crazy and the PC BEATS IT UP LIKE NUTS. Sony carefully is moving around that big monster call PC gaming... Microsoft... they just shot them selves way to many times to count.

Love how it already has a nickname: The Xbone! Hope that catches on. I still preferred "Next Box."

Someone called it the Xbox Juan. I lol'd.

I also laughed when someone else said its called One because Microsoft took 359 steps back.

I still get a chuckle out of the old: "It's called 'Xbox 360' because you'll turn 360°s and walk away."

Wow rofl, thank you HYRUL3, that was all you needed to say to tell me to make sure I never touch this system.

Also, that is one ugly system with a stupid name.

EDIT: Ahahahaha the Xbox One needs to be connected to the internet every 24 hours. Wow. Strange how this is supposedly 'next gen', yet the SNES, N64, PSOne, PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX run just fine without constant connection.

Man, this is too much, I'm lulzing all over the place here. The system isn't even released yet and it already commited seppuku. Very amusing, all of this is.

More good news! According to Kotaku (take that as you will) the Xbone will require an internet connection to function... but not always. At present the wording is vague and disputed but it seems as though the AdBox will need to connect at least once a day to synch with "The Cloud" before you can really do anything with it. It won't supposedly require a permanent connection though, so it's all good, right!? Do note that you'll have to be connected to verify the MANDATORY installation of any game, so there's no option to play completely offline from the disk.

But wait! There's more!

Abating fears 'round the world the Xbone will graciously allow the unwashed unruly masses to play those vile used games we all hate so much. Only, after the MANDATORY installation, you'll need to "activate" the game for use on any other system not tied to your XBL account. For a fee. That being THE FULL PRICE OF THE GAME. That's right, if you want to buy used you'll have to pay full for the "permission" to enjoy your legally purchased product. Microsoft "assures" us that they'll have a system, as of yet unspecified, available at launch to allow Xboned users to trade/sell/whatever their games digitally. Whether or not such a system indeed materializes or even proves useful, much less beneficial to the consumer, is anyone's guess. I can't imagine GameStop and the myriad of retailers following suit in the used games market are at all happy with the news. Oh, yeah, and I guess it completely screws over a significant portion of the game buying public too poor to pay out the ass for all the increasingly expensive digital trite these companies shove down our throats, but fuck'em, who cares about the plebs, am I right?

So, some care to tell me why I should at all be interested in this plastic piece of trash?

Microsoft can suck it. I never buy a game I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy. I usually borrow or rent first. But if I enjoy the game, EVERY SINGLE TIME I will buy it to add it to my library. If its available new, I buy new.

So now I can only buy what I know I will like? I can't attempt new things and feel comfortable enough with a new series to purchase it for myself?

They're basically shooting down any chance new IPs had at securing a large fanbase. Borrowing and renting is how people try things and expand their gaming tastes.

Yeah, it's amazing how revolutionary the Xbox One makes... watching TV. It seems like they're actually trying to make someone that appeals to pretty much no one. People who just want a convenient device to watch TV and Netflix can get an Apple TV or the like, and if you really want high-end games, the PS4 or an expensive PC have the X1 beaten. And they're pretty much saying "suck it" to everyone who doesn't live in America. Even more so to people who don't have easy and constant access to the Internet.

And a used game fee that costs as much as a new game? WTF.
