Video Games Don't Need a Government Warning Label

Postby DFPercush » 03.29.12 4:48pm

For those in the U.S.:
H.R. 4204 would would ad a warning label on all video games rated E (for Everyone) and up that says there's a link between video games and aggressive behavior. You and I both know this just isn't the case. Video games have the best labeling system in the ESRB and another label isn't needed, especially one that's as false as this. Please click the link below and send a message to your elected official.

Silly congressmen worrying about video games when there's death, hunger and stupidity to be dealt with.

This dog won't hunt. Besides the moment there is any legislation that actually threatens the videos games industry, EA, or Activision, or whoever can just buy some republicans and it will never be an issue again. Wouldn't even be that expensive I'd imagine. Just throw a few bucks their way and remind them not to forget about their anti-regulation stance when video game legislation turns up and you're set.

And we've just identified the problem!

And now we need to put warning labels on all books that have violent/suggestive material, all Movies that have graphic material, might as well just put warning labels on TVs in general. We need warning labels for music too! Listening to rap music will surely turn you into a gangster that would kill bitches and fuck hoes. In fact, why don't we put warning labels on the entire Entertainment industry? That sounds like a brilliant idea.

Why are legislator's so stupid?

Hey, that post sounded slightly aggressive, let's put warning labels on the internet too. Someone could be offended by stuff like this. You know, perhaps the government should just lock all citizens in small boxes sealed shut with caution tape.

Warning, prolonged exposure to the creature contained within could cause them to say something that offends your sensibilities, causing stress and possibly high blood pressure or depression. Ask your computerized doctor if communication with other humans is right for you. All rights not previously removed by some BS law the government has already passed reserved. ^_^

I don't think we need a new labeling system. Just more government trying to step into the entertainment industry. Don't we get enough laughs from Congress?

Either way, even if this does pass, *shrugs* I could care less. Parents should know what their kids are playing anyway and if this helps them stop and go "hmm wonder what this game is about" I don't see it any different then any other warning labels. But that's just me.

@Sharonlover
The problem would be the Snowball Effect. Who knows what they would do after they add yet another warning label? Especially one stating that there is a correlation between violent games and real-life violence.

Aggressive behavior? You mean my pretending to cast spells and swinging my imaginary sword and shield is aggressive behavior? WTF?!?!
