Pokemon Games Thread

Postby sharonlover » 01.04.10 2:42pm

I just caught a Magikarp, "SPLASH ATTACK".

Anyhow, so it's been years since I've played a Pokemon game. My last 'official' game was Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Snap on the N64 and the last adventure game was Pokemon Red (the original gameboy one).

Well I just picked up Pokemon Diamond the other day and am now reliving all the fun I had with the games. Two questions.

1. Are all the Pokemon from previous games in it? More importantly for me the original 150 (maybe even mew?). I've come across a few classic ones but not sure about the entire 'cast' of Pokemon available.

2. Is there a game like Pokemon Stadium out now, where I can utilize my DS to send my Pokemon for battle? I know there use to be one called Coliseum (I think it was like Stadium) but not sure if that's still current or if it's still possible.

Thanks, and as soon as I get some decently strengthen Pokemon, maybe I'll be able to catch some of y'all in battle :)

All Pokémon that exist up until the date of the game's release are catchable in any Pokémon game. In Diamond/Pearl's case, you get certain gadgets for catching retro Pokémon after you beat the game and see (no need to catch) all 150 Pokémon from the Sinnoh dex. You can also transfer Pokémon from the GBA games once that's done.

Catching legendaries, though, will be tougher. You'll have to either go to special Nintendo events (or maybe watch some Pokémon movies) or download items from Nintendo WFC in special dates.

Pokémon Battle Revolution, for the Wii. It's not a great game, but it's exactly what you asked for: a Pokémon Stadium for the DS. Pokémon Coliseum and Pokémon XD (both GameCube titles) also do that, but only for the GBA games.

Also: I am seriously considering buying Heart Gold soon.

I'm not aware of Nintendo saying anything, but I'm hoping they'll release a better vers. of Battle Revolution to coincide with HG/SS. Personally, I'd hold out until then.

Also, I'm am SO down with HG/SS it's not even FUNNY. I cannot WAIT to buy it.

Out of curiosity, Sharon, why didn't you pick up Plat? It's like the other two, only beefier. Like a fatter ravioli. ... I'm hungry.

Best. Special Edition Pokémon. Comparison. EVAH.

Luckily, I just filled myself up with SPAGHETTI.

I did a buy 2 get 1 free at Game$top. Picked up a couple of titles for the wife for Christmas (muramasa and the blob) and couldn't find anything else she liked or was talking about used, and Diamond is the only one they had (for cheap that is) as most still go between 20-25 used at Game$top, so I treated myself.

I'm trying to talk the wife into HG and SS (since we both have our own DS's) so we can have some fun, but I just wanted something to play for the moment. If I get through Diamond before she decides to pick up Pearl, we may just jump ahead to HG and SS as I never played Gold/Silver.

Pokemon certainly makes me feel nostalgic, but the games weren't very good. I still love paroosing that pokemon wiki and image boards (which have a lot of pokemon fans usually) to relive memories.

You really should have bought platinum, it's much better, but Quick question: where can I find pokemon fan art, I'm bored.

Well as I explained earlier, they only had Pokemon Diamond, so that's what I got. Right before Christmas I was lucky to find even that for the DS, as they didn't have any other Pokemon games (beyond some of the GBA ones) even new.

I did recommend the wife to pick up Platinum (or HG/SS) as my next is going to be HG or SS if the game still holds my interest.

Try deviant art, it has tons of Pokemon art. Type in 'Pokemon' in the search box your bound to find art. http://www.deviantart.com/

I am a long time Pokemon fan, I loved it long before I was a Metroid fan. ;3
I'm such a Kanto girl, I love my Red version to DEATH!! It was the 1st game I ever owned for a hand held.

Anyway, I'm extremely excited for Pokemon: Heart Gold & Soul Silver --I'm not even kidding!
I debated about getting the Japanese version because I wanted to play it so badly!

I own every 'version' Pokemon game, from Red to the current Pearl! I've also collected all of the Pokemon in every Dex.
It takes forever let me tell you that, but I like to earn the little reward and make the professors happy. :3

For those US residents who haven't heard yet:

From January 30th to February 14th, Pokémon fans in the US can go to a Gamestop and download a special Pichu to their Pokémon Pearl, Diamond, and Platinum. The shiny pichu can be traded into HG/SS and does something special.

By the by, I finally beat the Elite 4 in Diamond, totaling 63 hours (not bad for picking it up again since the originals came out). I'm going after all of the legendary now, then I'll get my national pokedex, and go me my articuno, voltres, and moltres.

I got Leaf Red and Ruby on it's way and the wife just got Sapphire yesterday. I wanted emerald but it's a little more to get and I'm still saving for my Japan trip. I'll be reserving HG and SS this week hopefully (I never played the original) and I sorta want to hold out for a crystal version as well. We'll see how all that goes.

Well, Pokémon Red was my favourite until Fire Red came along. I had like 3/4 of all Pokémon on my Fire Red cartridge and was constantly trading with my friends - until the cartridge got corrupted for being overused. Fire Red is definitely my favourite Pokémon game.

I meant fire red...not leaf red...for some reason I can't seperate those two :P

The wife wants to play fire red, but I want fire red :P so we're in debates on who gets to play it and who gets to wait for leaf green whenever that is bought. I just wanna play red so I can get my mewtwo back :) *yes I know it's in the other as well :P but I like red*

Well, Fire Red is meant to be seen through a guy character (hence his name being Red) and Leaf Green is meant to be with the girl character (hence her name being Leaf). Though it really doesn't matter except for slight Pokémon variations, I preferred Fire Red for that.

character gender doesn't really matter to us; though I prefer playing a female character when possible, all thanks to Samus :P
